So highly processed vegetable oils are healthy for us and butter is bad for us right? Here’s how they’re both made:

  1. Why do people even make these kinds of shorts? There's so much info cut out. It is just misleading and try to put people against one another.
The key words here are 'saturated' and 'polyunsaturated' fats. You wanna avoid saturated for the most part and want polysaturated. When choosing oils you want them cold-pressed. Good oils for cooking (even on high heat) is rapeseed oil and for dressing for example you wanna use flaxseed oil. If an oil contains of lots of polysaturated fats you should not heat them up very much, idealy not at all. Reason is that the groups of the polysaturated fats will break down once heated above a certain temperature. With that it loses its healthy content.

  2. Neither are particularly healthy to consume in large quantities. Chemical treatment does not make food unhealthy, nor do ‘natural processes’ make food healthy.

Generally speaking, if you want to be “healthy,” try to make it so that the majority of the fats you consume comes from the meats you consume, and limit your nut oil/butter intake.

  3. Olive, avocado, coconut, and those sorts of oils are actually healthy. Seed oils, on the other hand, such as canola oil, sunflower oil, or "vegetable" oil are all extremely unhealthy.

  4. Refined oil is unhealthy because it has nothing to offer in terms of health. The more complex, and raw an oil is, the more health value it offers. Butter is a healthier variant because it has a more complex makeup and is not refined to extract all the supposed impurities.
