Niger, Mali and Buchina Faso are not stupid. They think military know nothing about politics or diplomacy. These 3 Country know very well what they are doing. Africa is not really independent. There is nothing to talk about after threats, cutting off electricity to Niger even though it was contracted with Nigeria, freezing their bank accounts, taking them to partisan West African Court, denying them access to import and export facilities what do you want to talk to them about? Sing kumbaya. Think of the dangers Niger was exposed to in hospitals, streets at night, manufacturing plants for cutting off electricity supply. That is not how international relations work. Too late to talk.
The interference of ECOWAS in the internal affairs of the tripartite sovereign States was gross incompetence, the height of hubris, and underestimating them. It was gross incompetence of the Chair of ECOWAS. Then you have the chair of ECOWAS making untenable public claims of insurrection, killings with no basis, no verifiable evidence in these three countries while at the same time you have public common knowledge of insurrection, ethnic killing in northern part of Nigeria. What did ECOWAS or its Chair Bola Tinubu do about that?
I am afraid I am not convinced with your guest analysis. He is dreaming or hoping that the three united countries will not succeed. These three countries (Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali) will succeed and be starlight of Africa. You will see. Then see migration to these three countries for better opportunity particularly from Ghana and Nigeria. The international community is watching and following this situation.
As to going back, they are NOT going back to ECOWAS. And why should they? What does ECOWAS have to offer them – Nothing but disrespect and thrown them under the bus. They can do better without ECOWAS. They will.

Moreover, there is no requisite in international law that mandated them to join an interregional organisation such as ECOWAS. Consent is the only requirement which can be given and withdrawn at the pleasure of a party. They have withdrawn their consent to ECOWAS and manifested it publicly end of story, end of manoeuvres. ECOWAS just have to come to understanding and acceptance of that. The one year waiting period to fully exit is merely a formality to see if the dispute can be resolved amicably. They do not have to do anything. In treaty all that is require of them under Article 18 of the Vienna Convention of the Law of Treaty [VCLT] is that they do nothing to bring about the downfall of the organisation. They are too mature to do that moreover, they have a lot of work to do than to spend their time on trivial. One year goes by quick.
As to economies and infrastructures, does Ghana, Nigeria have trade intensity? Does Ghana, Nigeria have infrastructure for their economies? The factual answer is NO.
