Is funeral rice the same as jollof rice?
I made exactly as written except 1 tea curry because I have a really fussy family. Then I told them it was called Sloppy Joe Pie. They loved it sooooo much. They kept smacking their lips, saying “these would make the best sloppy joes.” 😂 Yeah they would.

I love the global flair brought to the channel and that chef John is open to experimenting! I think Bobotie is one of those dishes that has a "how my mom used to make it" character, as it has soooo many subtle variations. My all time favorite recipe is from Lynn Bedford Hall – absolutely epic and perfectly balanced. What's just missing on the plate tho is some yellow rice and pumpkin fritters 🙂 It definitely needs some sides to round it off and make sure it's not too one note.
Great recipe, but had to watch with sound off and subtitles as i couldnt stand the voice over with the constant TONE of voice GOING up AND DOWN all THE time which IS really IRRITATING

Sadly No Can Do. Curry powder and Chutney do not exist where I live. It does remind me of my Tamale Pie, hamburger, onions , taco sauce and masa or cornmeal to thicken and make a crust.I may be able to use the bread and milk thickener and egg topping with some other kind of flavoring,though.
I am unable to tell the difference between results when I use dried bay leaves or not (fresh not available in my area).
For a savory dish, what should I replace the chutney with? Or can I just omit it without replacement?
