Salamina Mosese in the air plane scene…I almost didn't recognize her when I watched it.
Do South Africans generally speak multiple languages? It seems like the cast members had an understanding of multiple languages. For example, Tumi could speak Zulu and Xhosa to Khaya; Tswana with her side of the family; she could understand Afrikaans when her “father” spoke to her. Dineo spoke Tswana and could understand her ex (Tumi’s “father”) when he spoke Pedi.
I believe Xhosa and Zulu are mutually intelligible, but are the other languages also mutually intelligible or do South Africans just learn multiple languages? This is truly fascinating to me.
