I do think Strickland did enough to DEFEND his championship. Typically, when Judges judge a fight like this, they hold the challenger to a Very High Standard, in order to beat the SITTING CHAMPION. However, this fight was not Judged in that method for some reason. Every time I see a fight where the Challenger did MORE than the CHAMPION, the Champion WON because the Challenger did not TKO or KO or demolish the Champion. In this scenario, it was because he scored a few take downs, and his headbutt caused a lot blood. So Technically, Strickland should have won that….but plussy did well enough to earn my respect, kinda.
WHY WHY WHY is nobody talking about the tap. Silva tapped very lightly then fell asleep but was woken up quickly because Pennington hit her side.

Strickland won and it was taken away by him.. funny enough it was a rule by judge… the exact same bs du Plessis bitched about how Strickland won the belt.

Its was a tie like seriously do yall even see both fighters or just the one yall going for. Sean had the jabb on point and takdown defence. ddp had the body shots head kicks take downs and he was punching sean in the face 2 . they both fucked each other up. i dont agree with ddp winning but i can see why they choose him as the winner

Clearly this fight was very close the thing that bothers me is there always seems to be a bias towards the champion in a decision aka "taking it from the champ". In this case though that seems to have not been applied? Just wish there was some more consistency with judging. Same with takedowns some fights useless takedowns matter some fights they don't.

good anaylysis, yes strickland has a quick, sneaky jab and has the ability to go forward and lean back and get the other fighter to miss, then go forward. I would suggest to strickland to use your hands more after the jab. (not just when you land a good punch) , then do your thing step back, jab again. as for dricus, yes your analagy is correct. he needs to get around the jab and defense, after round one, every fighter must make adustments. i felt dricus had trouble dealing with strickand other than take downs. talented guy, but yes faint the jab, or go in, right away again. comes down to not letting other fighter dictate.

I thought Strickland won the fight. Dricus did nothing with his takedowns. I had Sean winning 1, 2 and 5. It certainly wasn’t a robbery but look at these guys after the fight. Dricus clearly took more damage.

It was a bullshit decision. Those jabs of Sean, tore up DDP's face. DDP showed a lot of heart, but he did not win. Thus why he was throwing those looping over hand blows trying for the knock out because he thought he was down.
I scored it 3 – 2 for Strictland. And I thought if the fight was so close, they give the fight to the champ! I thought he was robbed! All you have to do is look at the face of DDP.
Was a good fight, I even almost considered buying it.
I scored Sean as winning that fight. I mean I think its just contradictory how DDP's takedowns while ineffective were scored as a plus while in other fights like Silva vs Shara; Silva's takedowns though quite effective did not engross his score. Its obvious a takedown should not ad to your score if you fail to ground and pound or if you fail to assemble a maneuver. DDP couldn't afford to do either because he would have gassed out and accordingly, his takedowns should not have been scored to his favour so I will agree with Dana and give Sean the win of this fight.
Great fight. Both were playing chess this time instead of one “playing checkers”. It has definitely been a while since I’ve seen people dick ride a defensive jabber though. If it wasn’t Strickland I wonder if they’d be cheering as hard? Meh who cares? Great fight to both.
I think Strickland won and won hands down. Damage is the number 1 criteria. I like both fighters and I have nothing against DDP. SS had double the significant head strikes, maybe. SS was the much more technical striker. SS won 3 rounds and I would’ve even been ok with 4 rounds to 1. But, 3-2 SS in my opinion. Thanks, Michael!!

That fight was boring as fuck. Strickland is a boring fighter. He did a good job neitralizing DDP and Izzy but I, personally, am not that interested in watching 25 minutes of jabs and checked kicks.
Sean is the man, but he lost
It was scored correctly. Sean obviously out struck him but ddp took him down 6 times and controlled the pace and octagon virtually the entire fight.. The fact that people are so convinced that strickland won is honestly crazy. Great fight though, I'd love to see a rematch
