  1. You went to the wrong place for Koshary. You should have gone to Koshary abou Tarek. The Tom & Bassal one is not up to the mark.
For Hawashi, you should have also gone to Hawashi el rabie.

  2. Ok, Turkish coffee is in Turkey. Please don't insult tea in other countries by calling it Turkish coffee.
Instead, you can call it Arabic coffee. Turkey is not an Arab country either.
The proper name for this is qahwa.

  3. I’m sorry this is going to be long and I’ll try to keep it short . It’s all still raw for me because this happened just 3-4 days back and I really don’t want anyone else to fall into this trap .

I got Mostafa’s contact from here and had been in touch with someone who claimed to be his assistant for over 2 months . We agreed on the rate for a day trip (though it was pretty steep we just took it because it’ll be our first day at Cairo and we just don’t want to get scammed as warned by many people over the Internet ) . Until the day before our trip they kept confirming that Mostafa would be taking us on the tour . But on the day of tour, I get a message from a lady that she will be taking us on a tour ( turns out she works for Mostafa ) She took us to two places and post that she was insistent on taking us back to hotel though we had agreed to do 3-4 places as per the itinerary they shared . After our pyramids visit she kept insisting on taking us to a place that’s a “must see “ ( which I assumed to be some sort of museum or an important site but turned out to be a tourist trap ) . They were selling these paintings on papyrus at exorbitant prices ( literally $10 items for $150) .

The mistake was mine to have made a purchase there because I have this FOMO and didn’t want to miss out on taking home a beautiful souvenir to adorn our wall. And I made myself an easy target because the sales person as well as tour guide were bit persuasive saying they sell original ones and there are many fake ones out there . I trusted our guide because she would constantly ask us not to engage with locals as they’ll try to scam us so I thought she’s getting us a good deal .

She also asked us over and over again not to visit Khan -e-khalili market alone as people try to scam the tourists . Irony is , while I agree we might have got scammed a bit at the market, the tour guide who warned us about scammers , scammed us a big time .

I’m still a bit livid because the reason we spend hours browsing to find someone local to help you out while visiting a country is to avoid getting scammed . I understand when these guides charge a little extra and also when they pocket some commission here and there . But they are literally scammers in disguise . She even got most of the basic facts wrong ( now I doubt if she’s even a licensed guide though she claimed to be one ) and the best part , she told us Mostafa hasn’t been taking on tours for a long while now and it’s mostly 2-3 people he hired who take on the tours now ) . So they have been misleading me the entire time that he’s the one who’ll take us on tour .

That’s pretty much my rant . Though we didn’t start our Egypt trip on a happy note , so far it’s been going fine .

  4. Coffee is actually Egyptian and they introduced to The world after being famous in yemen it became very popular here and Osman sultan took it from Egypt.. till This day egypt souq bazar is famous in Istanbul because most if food and drink were introduced by us

  5. Just a little Tipp for more enjoyable videos. She should stop trying to pronounce arabic words, I've never heard someone butcher the language like she did" molakia, al Kaira, shikran "
As a turk u should be able to do better.
The white boy did a better job.

    And btw…
u see similarities to turkey in Egypt, like the darabuka or the coffee, that doesn't mean they are Turkish. that is no Turkish coffee that is egyptian

  6. I'm glad you added the USD equivalents for the food costs. I'm going to Jordan and Egypt 6 weeks from tomorrow and will spend my 60th birthday in Cairo before returning to the US. I'll be gone 3 weeks, but even though most of the meals are included in the tour, I'm excited to try the local dining experiences.

  7. If you discribed the adresses it would be soooo nice. Yesterday we walked and walked and walked but can’t find the places! Near by the gate, which gate?? On google you have many gates..

  8. Hope you enjoyed your time in Egypt. Just to let you know Mulukhya is not a soup and its since ancient Egypt. Egyptian street food is really good but not all places get it right. 🙂

  9. I love your videos! Just discovered your channel as I am starting research for a visit to Egypt. How did you fare with the food? Did either of you get sick? I want to not be paranoid about that, and I understand it can happen anyplace.
