Don't mix the Republic of Somaliland with Somalia. Somaliland is a fully sovreign independent country for the last 33 years since 1991 when it withdrew from the failed, disastrous, unratified Union with former Italian colony of Somalia which lasted 31 years.
Somaliland was a British Protectorate 1884-1960 and attained official independence from the United Kingdom in June 26, 1960. A defacto, peaceful, democratic, rapidly developing Republic for the last 33 years, Somaililand is awaiting official International recognition from Ethiopia, leading African and Western countries after the the President of Somaliland Muse Bihi Abdi and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiyey Ahned signed the Memorundum of Understanding on New Year's Day, 2024
