At least 100 dead in Mozambique after ferry boat capsizes

At least 100 people are dead and 11 are in hospital after a makeshift ferry capsized off the northern coast of Mozambique.
The overloaded fishing boat was not licensed to carry people.
Most on board were trying to escape the mainland after false reports of a cholera outbreak.

Al Jazeera’s Zein Basravi reports.

  1. Tidal wave, really?!
Freak wave maybe, since there are reports of rought seas. Perhaps the freak wave was the triggered in a "tidal" zone or perhaps it was the extreme tides that contributed to capsizing the over-laiden vessel?
… and why should we care? Ppl know the risks, it was not a ferry operator nor a regular business.
I would, however, question the urgency with which ppl wanted to leave the area. The skipper could/should have waited for better conditions. This is Africa, not dull, boring Nanny first world Nations.
