That “good pirate game, bad AC game” take from like 10 years ago really is one of the most brain dead takes in the community. I can’t believe some people still regurgitate it
5 hours? You need 5 hours to explain why you like a game?
I like the Templar armour 🥺
I like how he steals the robes at the start and then takes the Templar armour off a dead corpse so you sort of look like Vain with the black and red and with what you said about Vain being what Edward could be it’s cool to then earn the robes and chuck them back on to prove he hasn’t gone down the same path as him, but hey that’s just me 😅
I've been in Assassin's Creed fan since the very beginning and have always loved the games and the story is told within them. I forgot a lot of the details over time, but I recently came across your channel and started listening to all your videos – and I just have to say that they have given me a whole new perspective and appreciation for just how amazing they are. You do a phenomenal job and I can't thank you enough for all the work that you put into this. Thank you so much. Ubisoft needs people like you steering the ship (no pun intended).
Following your claim that you don’t expect many to watch James I thought I should mention that I think that your assassin’s creed content is the most thoughtful I’ve watched on YouTube and it’s reinvigorated a healthy playthrough of multiple of the titles, thank you for bringing new life to games I’ve already played many many times 😊
The whole thing on the first civilization is explained a lot better in odessys dlc. It makes the stuff in valhalla a lot easier to understand (eivor also meets kassandra in a crossover mission) kassandra also basically becomes the strongest assassin I'm an end game mission where she dawns a hidden blade, black robes and a red sash/belt thing around her waist.
This was beautiful, man… Amazing video, as always.
How do you do 1? Trilogy of 2 and skip 3 but do 4?
this is easily the longest youtube video i have watched all the way through. amazing editing, writing, analysis and research. I LOVE MULTI HOUR EXTENSIVE DEEP DIVES INTO IRRELEVANT VIDEO GAMES THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!
Hbomberguy Reference to talking about capitalism in 13ish minutes. Godspeed lmao
its kinda silly to see you complain like "nothing happens in the 2 years gap just (list of 10 events)" also, its completly normal that 2 years go by and hes been "just" plundering (and the other 9 stuff like meeting the assassins, killing various targets, and building his on town in an island, yeah i guess 2 years seems too quick) and in the end if it felt too quick for you is just because you dont like to enjoy the side stuff, I actually really had a lot of fun foing from one place to another and I always considere like "wich of these stuff i will do on my jorney to (place)? wich will i do when coming back? wich will i leave for later when i get better equip?"
I think the modern day of Black flag would have been a lot better if the Sages wouldnt have been unceremoniously dropped from the story. In there was so much narrative potential for both the modern day and the history. Sure it has it's rough edges but it could just be the one that sets up the Narrative but that's Ubisoft I guess.
Is there an AC3 video because ive been watching these in order and they make work so much more enjoyable
Bloodborne mentioned. Rahhhhhh
Now I’m interested on your opinion about rouge (after you said it was bad), I always thought that it had a great story and was good at criticizing the assassins, hope you do it some day
You really didn't need to hold your microphone. I'm sure it can pick up your voice just fine on your desk.
Okay, Black Flag is my 2nd favorite next to Rogue, and Odyssey is great….as a spartan warfare game, TERRIBLE Assassin's Creed though
Would love to get another retrospective on AC2 and ACB
Cannot even imagine how much of gargantuan task it was between writing, editing and recording for this video.
Absolute King. Love these long as hell retrospective videos, my favourite type of content at this point 👌
Once again, coming out with a fantastically worded retrospective. I really enjoyed your analysis of the game, its' philosophies and characters, as I did with your previous ones. This just made me appreciate Black Flag even more, and I'll definitely be playing the game again with a new perspective. Thank you for the content, it's always a pleasure!
FIVE HOURS ON MY FAVORITE GAME?! YES!!
me: i will never watch a 5 hours retrospective
me after watching it: all retrospectives should be at least 5 hours
Classic ngl
I think you may have a soft spot for AC1. Not too sure tho lol
I think the observatory acts as an amplifier.
Slight correction. Edward doesn't kill the Guardians when heading to the Observatory. The game even tells you this. You can even see in your own game play that you are pacifying them instead of killing them.
Bruh… My shift tonight is about to be so 🤌
Brilliant video for a brilliant game. Truly
cant wait for the odyssey retrospective
To me, the time passage would be there to explain thqt the sailing took long ass time to get from one place to another, tge problem I have with that is that it is not propperly shown to be the case
1:00:07 actually very much agree with that. There are loads of games where can more powerful option isn’t the fun one. But imo you need to make your own fun to some extent. And since it’s not a multiplayer there isn’t a real downside to using less powerful options it only take a bit longer

Oh!! I think I remember hearing this one………oh, yeah I remember this one well……."tell her I love you bouth" 😭
Hot take the RPG games (origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla) aren’t bad games. I’ve played every main Assassins creed game and Origins is easily top 3.
1:06:42 This is so true 😅 I am not a native English speaker so when I played the game as a kid, I couldn't read the optional objectives. When I discovered that I could pickpocket huge sums of money from them it felt very cool.
Did you seriously go on a tangent to talk about how farmers were affected by the rise of captialism?? They were more affected by the industrial revolution happening around them that, yenno, completely negated the need for them to be working out on the fields in the first place lol. Marxist propaganda is everywhere
Crazy but we are all waiting for a remake of ac black flag with the same excitement like the release of a new game
Im gonna say it, lazerzz is easily the person who has gotten the most out of assassin's creed, its not even close
I've never liked the modern-day in Assassin's Creed it's always been the absolute worst part of all the games
The one overwhelmingly great thing modern assassin's creed games do is the modern day In The games a are borderline non existent
not only did I love the video it articulated so much of what I love from black flag great job
And talking Blackbeard and sequence 6 they did Israel Hands so dirty in this game.
As fun as the AC 2 tombs were it was basically Desilets throwing a bone to Prince of Persia fans and those who knew. The first time I played AC2 and got to the first tomb my reaction was “This is Prince of Persia porn, and I love it.”
Great video, I've managed to get through it in a day and watched it to give me a reminder of what I played last in the series, having played them all from the first up until this one (inc liberation), but none since. It's a bit overwhelming how many there are but I might get hold of Rogue next as it came out after Black Flag.
I did have the same issue with the modern day parts in this vs all the prior ones where it just felt faceless and less involved than with Desmond of which I was so gripped by that story and works much better if you do play them all in order. I think I did those over about seven years and haven't been back for about 5 years or so.
It took me four days, but I completely watched the entire video and I felt as much nostalgia for black flag as i felt for ac 1 when I had watched your ac1 retrospective. Thank you, James, for helping me understand the themes of the games i loved better than I ever could have, your hard work left a mark on me and as someone young, it truly means a lot to me.
thank you from the bottom of my heart,
I will cherish this video as a fond memory of mine.
After watching all AC Retrospectives, I'm both nervous and curious on how you'll do AC3's Retrospective 😂😂😂
Benjamin Horn- what now?
Thank you so much for this video. It’s made me want to play Black Flag again!

TLDR; but I did watch it
