I get the impression if it wasn't for the Dago's there may not be a standing building in the country. It appears the alleged 'dictator' does a good job of keeping order. The Eritreans I talk to don't like him, but I think he gets rid of the pervs.

Thanks for show me places where my family stayed for lot of years till 1975! Italians built up the city starting from the end of 1800 till 1941. Italian stayed there till 1975. Asmara was called "the little Rome"!

As an Eritrean, I feel great and proud to be an Eritrean, but at the same time, I feel sad that our beloved country Eritrea and especially our Capital city Asmara has lost 20 years of development path due to the war waged by the Ethiopian govt-TPLF.
After WW II Eritrea should have been an independent country just like all African nations,, but unluckily due to the interest of the USA in the Red Sea basin, Eritrea had to be annexed to Ethiopia forcibly in 1952, the ppl of Eritrea were against the decision and started an armed struggle in 1961 against the US and Ethiopian decisions to free Eritrea. After 30 years of fighting Eritrea became independent in 1991 legally in 1993.
However, 5 years after independence again a proxy war of the USA using Ethiopia began, and Eritrea had to be sanctioned for unjustified cases for 18 years, due to that sanction and other additional cases Eritrean economy is devastated, today one can see the results even the walls of plenty houses are colourless and damaged due to lack of maintenance.
We hope that Eritrea will rehabilitate and flourish soon.
