Anti-tourism protests across Spain continue despite economic growth | BBC News

The Spanish economy has been growing faster than most of its European neighbours recently – and that’s in great part due to its tourism industry.

Tourism contributes around 13% of GDP growth to the country’s economy thanks to a model based on sand, sea and sun.

This year, nearly 100 million foreign visitors are expected – a new record – and…

Ooga boga me no like tourist. Turismo es mal

@Kevin-ht1st

These Spaniards can live in the mudhut if it wherent for the white man. No cell phone, water, computer, car, or air con

@fadi9799

Tourism is like stock markets, higher demands bring higher prices. Lower demands brings lower prices. Lower tourism = Lower prices.

@fadi9799

The amount of tourists in the Mediterranean cities in Spain is annoying as hell. Full of British and Germans!

@hen1508

😂😂😂😂 Spain… I wish you beg for the tourist to come back to your country

@ELPaso1990TX

Simple rule Don’t go to Spain. Spanish hate tourists especially Brits. There are plenty of other much nicer places to visit in Mediterranean. It’s a big world and Spain is a little country. They can keep it!

@JoshuaEnglish-x1z

Refugees, yes but no to tourists. Spaniards are morons

@King-ur7ev

Does this mean that we can complain about them coming to Australia because we feel the same about them they are everywhere in Queensland

@stevenmclaren2730

Now there's floods, and you're asking for help. Ffs

@JamButterToast

I see what they mean, it's made for tourists and like he said becoming too expensive, and feels like a theme park. Have to hear them out.

@User-x4c2g

Tourists go home. Muslims men that hate our culture and want to coerce our women to use Hijab and celebrate the Ramadan, you are more than welcome.

@KazixeZone

Let's see what hapoens to Spain when ALL of the tourists leave. Let's see how catastrophic is for a country who gets most of its money FROM TOURISM.

@3_Degrees

No one from Spain has ever visited another country???

@pencilme1n

I fully understand the locals concerns. I think there are too many people with the time and finances spending most of it on holidays.
We need to think about our impact, vary and/or ration our leisure activities.
I try to go to quieter places in the UK.

@assumity

I understand the concerns of Spaniards, but this outward hostility to visitors really paints Spain in a bad light. Tourism accounts for 13% of Spain’s GDP, and provides millions of jobs. If even a quarter of that goes away, Spain is in trouble, and every Spaniard will feel it. They need to apply pressure to their political leaders, not get in the face of tourists paying a lot of money to simply have a pleasant holiday.

@rolansmith9951

Thiss is funny Spain and the conquest 😂 they are mingols stop what earn you money 😂 they don’t work and sleep half the day 😂 manana for your wages bums

@mikebooker6243

Let's leave them alone until all their hotels and restaurants have gone bankrupt 😂

@khant6380

Pakistani curse RTD QAZI ISA AND HIS WITCH WIFE ZARENA GOING BACK TO SPAIN

@kurtisbanks7655

Tourism is the reason why Spain is thriving makes no sense at all

@nrqoro

As a Spaniard, I don't approve of this. The Spain I know is very welcoming to everybody. Please, take into account that this is very localized in very stressed areas and only a minority of people. However, even though I can understand their frustration, that does not justify this and TOURISTS ARE NOT TO BE BLAMED. I bet most of us like to go to other places and feel welcome and have a good time. Life is getting pretty rough already to have such bad experiences in the little time we have to enjoy. I feel very sorry for the tourists that suffered this harrassment, and being sprayed with water can only be done by kids or child-minded people, obviously. This would be a good opportunity for fellow tourists to visit more other parts of our beautiful country. We have many cities and small towns that you are going to love and be at peace, my friends. The amount of xenophobia and aggressiveness these days is really worrisome. Chill out, fellas. Hate is rotting the world. People tend to release their frustrations against the ones that have nothing to do with the root of their problems. Get together and look for solutions in a civilized manner, go to the city hall and express your desires as a community with the ones you voted to be there. And remember that we live in a very connected world and your actions can affect the image of your fellow neighbours. After this, people all over the world must think that Spaniards are unthankful spoiled kids governed by tantrums.

@Bookerdevin101

Lol the former colonizer is now playing the "victim" card

@judgenutmeg6935

The government needs to regulate it it’s that simple. Action like that would get peoples votes. But I suppose the government makes so much money from over tourism, they’re not arsed about the average person. And from what I’ve heard Spanish politics is shite.

It's so funny observing how Brits get angry that they are not welcome in different country. Well, be honest guys you are noisy and messy tourists. I saw that mess where Brits were sitting in the eating area at the airport in Tenerife in September 2023. You just need to accept the fact that there are too many of you there and the locals are fed up. You kicked out all immigrants from your country after Brexit. So local people in Tenerife has the same rights to protect their country from different cultures as well.
