An Attack on a Uniformed Man is an Attack on the State. I Support the Closure of Banex Plaza -Irabor

Every Nigerian of goodwill must condemn such acts, and I support the closure of Banex Plaza until those responsible are brought to justice.
Gen. Lucky Irabor, Former Chief of Defence Staff

@toch8528

I just had to come back here and post this. I hope you never have to experience such Sir, then still defend the Army.

@stanujr5028

These joirnalists are very weak, not asking the appropriate questions

@KBFalconer

I cannot believe that this is the position of a person who was once the highest-ranking officer in the Nigerian army. He talks complete nonsense, and sadly the journalists allow him to get away with it.

@oceinitiative5078

The highest form of power is not the military but the people. It is well spelt out in the law that the military are not to be involved in a civil issues. The beating of the military men as much as i condemn it; I also condemn the act of the military man going to the shop to bully the innocent trader using the military uniform… that is a total misrepresentation of the institution of the state called military. This has happened in DELTA where this sad issue resulted to death and now same in the plaza? i will advise a thororugh investigation into how the miliatry see the people and how the military are suddenly becoming too involved in civil issues rather than solving national security affairs as i see no need for the army man to go to the plaza and bully the sellers. I would have advised the seller to endure for the greater good of all but the crucial question to ask the Nigerian state is…for how long will your citizens be oppressed, bullied, harshly treated by the institution that is supposed to protect it? the shops are closed down… the innocent majority who own one shop or the other there are suffering for the actions of a few and indeed the unlawful action of the military man who went to the shop to bully the trader. THIS IS THE REALITY OF THE NIGERIA WE LIVE IN. THIS IS SAD! IMAGINE THAT THEY HAVE EVEN TRIBALIZED IT TO AN ATTACK AT THE IGBOS WHEN IT IS SAID ON THE MEDIA THAT BOTH THE BUYER AND THE SELLER ARE NOT EVEN IGBOS. SAME SITUATION WE FACE IN NIGERIA.

@bigolu7051

The General is right. uniformed men should not be assaulted. The only problem is that that only happens in civilized societies and Nigerian is not a normal society.
The General is however wrong by saying the Army should occupy and close down the shopping complex. This seems to be a mob action, and the proper thing is to identify culprits by investigating.
But again, 🇳🇬 is not normal society.

@patrickechebi4856

The man in military uniform is not above the law of the land and what this supposed retired general is probably insinuating so.
This so called general is talking nonsense.

@judenjoku8549

Sir you just lied cause there's no men of integrity in Nigerian Army and moreover the military belong in the barracks

@jonahigbokwe394

The army seem to be living in a fools paradise. They have lost their essence and are worth nothing today.

@danegwu6334

Much as the act is condemnable, military personnel should see civilians as their employees because their salaries are paid by the civilians they often brutalise at the slightest provocation. The military unduly protect its unruly personnel reason why they often claim they must have their way right or wrong. I feel Nigerians are being intimidated by the military. The military authority should allow the police to do their job. What happened at Banex Plaza is a civil matter. Soldiers don't even submit to the police. That should not be.

@IsraelOsakioyamen

Mr irabor you have sounded well..an attacks on any Nigeria army is an attacks on a state.
Mr Irabor oooo,an attacks on citizens of Nigeria by Nigeria army is what?????

Nothing Mr lucky,you who have failed the binis.how many men have u help from edo state..

@CuepointStan

This soldiers are citizens just like we are. They come heavy handed and often often attack civilians with impunity. The soldiers need to respect their uniform.

@allenemokpae7627

He speaks well but was economical with the truth. One would expect a soldier of his calibre to know what the rule of law says but clearly he is no different from the rank and file. It tells you the mentality of the persons who are trained to be soldiers in Nigeria without regard for civilians. Poor reasoning from a so called general. Deltans please be aware just in case he wants to go into politics.

@peterekavwoesq754

The Nigerian Army should call itself to order. The culture of wanting to oppress civilians and when people react, then you come to say this is not also correct. No human life is more human than others.

@chidiebereudeh1694

If an army is beating up in Dangote will they close the refinery, u are playing childish games

@victorinwang

The military should be apologising to Nigerians

@skyreportersng6663

In the first place we’re NOT meant to be a Nation so we’re just managing and forcing ourselves to be a Nation, if we’re a Nation this guy should be arrested and prosecuted for this trash he vomited against the citizens. You obviously forgot the oath you sworn to protect Nigeria and its citizens.

@anyaehieekene4460

Agent of the state intimidating,Abusing and Harassing the Citizen of the state paying the agent of the state salaries with their taxes.

@RealdikachiIbe

We refuse to intimidated by this military men simply bcs they are holding guns we also have rights to save defence how can military personal be used against there own people and u expect them to keep quiet

@Tade734

Make uniform men should respect themselves too ,I don't care anything you say..Nigerian army so corrupt and never respect the citizens

@ndukaanyim6466

Some journalist never ask the right questions

@ogieluv1056

Oga why don't you tell the army to stop dehumanizing civilians there is always two side of a cone stop being one sided sir.

@ogieluv1056

I wonder why our military men at so common on the street every little public issues they are always involved.

@dareishola

Most of the time, the military always think they are above the law. They should report to the police and allow the do there Job .

@macaulaynelson3037

Moving forward the army must give orientation to the public on our to channel their grievances and the army must be seen to doing justice.

@ChukwuemekaCamara

Nigeria is county with no laws

@OnuoraPhilip

General sir,you are not sincere. Come to ushafa,a girl will have misunderstanding with someone and next thing is to go and call her Army boyfriend and he will go and mis reprsent the Army please Army should respect their uniform for God's sake.

@13thghost42

Soldiers, especially irate NCOs lay hands on civilians all the time. Many times over trivial matters and even unprovoked.

@rocity584

Please don't bring idiots like this to talk on public space.

@MurphyNwafada

Mr Irabor your not Man, how could you justify a solder whose job is to be inside the Barack or war zone to be invited to a civil matters? and you know he must have misbehaved b4 the traders strike back, because they are arrogant and mannerless, and the person that involved him there must be a criminal too, if not why didn't she call the police officer's to settle her case? So support don't evil sir..

@wolfswinkel8906

Sir, your officers and men are extremely lacking in civil conduct (an oxymoron they're military) but they're egotistical and aggressive in public. It's like society is a master – slave caste system.

@sheilaflores5608

As what the general said it condemnable action, we can't continue to make the people serving laughable or ridicule people.
Whatever were the issues those concerned should have report to police.
We stand with our great men and women serving our national security both internal and external sovereignty.

Where they on official duty there ? The army is not above the law of the land and being an army does not make you more important than a businessman who's tax is used to take of you. It is a mere disagreement btw two parties that led to fight an mob. The police should investigate like every other case. Enough of Nigeria army acting as if an army live is worth more that any Nigeria . You shut down and entire livelihood of people of days now for a simple case the dss can investigate and people involved brought to book. And
When soldiers were killed in shiroro in niger state we didn't see this man coming on air to say all these but bam when okouma and banex occurred he is😮 all over defending the army.

@georgebenjamin5180

Oga general tell your men to STOP taking alcohol and go to their barracks, Ave you seen the way they dehumanising the civilians

@toch8528

Any form of violence is condemned. Sir, you are quick to defend the Army, without having context of the situation beyond what any of us have. But let's ask the questions – 1) What has been the reputation of the Nigerian Military concerning their social conduct, discipline, and decorum
2) Does the Army exist for society or the the society exist for the Army
3) Is the life of a Military personnel any greater than that of a civilian
4) Statistics have shown that civilians have been greatly impacted by violence perpetuated by Military personnel than vice versa
5) An act against ANY Nigerian is an act against the state!

You can't come here and take sides first, without being objective and empathetic to all parties involved. There was a time when the Army was revered, respected, admired, and looked up to, but now, you see them used as weapons to stir civil unrest and political anarchy. Sir, you are a civilian now, please be measured with your assessment of such affairs. Nigerians live in perpetual fear of uniformed personnel (armed and unarmed). You wont dare say this in a western country!

@menubachinedu9135

What were they doing there and how did they conduct themselves?

@SIMPLETV939.

Uniformed man should respect themselves and they should also learn how to be social, friendly to citizens.

@JOK007

I love me a highly learned Military officer, even though retired
