I lived and voted during the Reagan years in Wyoming. As a dem, I laid low, knowing the comments I’d receive if I revealed my beliefs. My social group did not discuss politics, religion, salary. We just felt those topics were private and personal.

If this lady is offended by that quote, it is only because she herself is choosing to associate her uncles with that half of Trump supporters and not the other, presumably decent, half.
One woman wants someone quick and decisive to be president, when a good amount of time, the president needs to be a thoughtful person who makes careful decisions based on research and evidence.

Trump's message is simple. His way of thinking is simple. He is like a child or at most a teenager and his words reflect this. People who are attracted to his message are simple people, with a simple worldview. For them there are "bad guys" and "good guys", there are "common sense" solutions to common problems. Trump, in his ignorance and baseness offers them these childish solutions. For simple people Trump is a hero, because everyone else talks in confusing and hard to understand words. For them democrats don't offer black and white solutions, they offer nuanced economic theories, and these don't appeal to them, even though Trump ones are fallacies, lies, simplifications or just promises that he won't ever fulfill. Being simple does not equal being dumb, it's just more difficult to convey complicated solutions in a simple way for them to accept them. How can you make them understand that inflation was caused by broken supply chains, covid and a surge in demand? That oil was cheaper during Trump because no one was driving cars during covid? That crime is lower even if their TV is screaming to them that it's higher? That immigration is what makes the US the powerhouse of the world?
