Africa's biggest dam: Why it matters and to whom | Pinch Point

The Grand Ethiopian Dam, built over the Blue Nile’s tributary, will provide electricity to millions of people. So why then is it the focus of an international dispute?
In 2023, the reservoir covered an area bigger than London. Countries living downstream are worried.

  1. It is so amazing that this manipulated medias talk something, do what they are told, speak what are given, spread the risk of what they are told…etc. If they even had a little empathy for Ethiopia, they would try to see it from our POV ,and try to understand in what kind of deep poverty Ethiopia. But, whatsoever they dont care they report and make documentary supporting their own ideas and depicting manipulations.

  2. Ethiopia the contributor of 86.5% of River Nile is The Major Owner of The River!! Ethiopia Have Sovereign And Natural Right to Use it's Own Natural Resources in her own territory!!! Egyptian Empty discourse Have Zero Effect on Ethiopia but will affect them in Return!!! Egyptian know Ethiopian bravery very well they will swallow their False Discourse and propaganda in future. Its My Dam! Ethiopia will prevail 💪💪💪💪💪🇪🇹🇪🇹🇪🇹🇪🇹

  3. There is nothing under the sun Egypt has not tried to prevent this happening..in fact it is safe to say hydro politics is the main saurce of most miseries in the horn of Africa…although Egypt has still not stoped its mischiefs it is about time they realize GERD is a fait accompli and accept that it can no longer bully upper stream countries…!!!! EGYPT is stuck in its historical arrogance !!!

  4. As Egyptian the source of nile river is Ethiopia. Then Ethiopia has the right to use the water within it's boundaries! That is natural right and violations of this right is against it's sovereignty!

What we have to do as Egypt is to negotiate within Ethiopia on the river! There is nothing achieved by force in this era! We Egyptian know it!
If the dam doesn't effect on Ammount of the water we share earlier, why we need to talk and threat our fellow Ethiopians? We have to build great Africans together! Stop the political coalition of any type ! Spread love and affection ❤❤

  5. As an Egyptian, I fully support the idea that Ethiopia can do whatever they wish to do with their share of the river, but as soon as it threatens our National stability, they shouldn't cry about consequences.

Every country has the right to defend its countries stability from foreign and domestic threats, if a dam threatens our stability, it's open games.

  6. It's laughable how Egypt claims to own a river that runs 6,600 kilometers. Do their border extend to every part the river touches? They better grow up this is the 21st century where there's no monopoly of power. They better negotiate
