This is a really informative video and I’m taking notes! The only point I don’t agree with is the social media aspect. I think LinkedIn is a social media app for work where you should be active and you should create those posts. A lot of recruiters have mentioned having an active LinkedIn.

I’m a black IT professional. I left a company that I was at for 10 years when I realized that no matter how many certifications I got I wouldn’t get past help desk. 6 months later I’m a Network Engineer with a $80,000 pay increase. Don’t be afraid to leave to give yourself a raise.
I had to cc a colleague manager because she used me as an escape goat for not getting her task done.
When she gave me to the task I asked what’s the deadline and she was like there is none. Show up to the meeting and she throw me under the bus. After that meeting I worked straight until the end of the day to finish my task. I cc’d her and her manager. Moving forward when I completed a task from her I cc’d her and her boss about the completion of the task. Idc because I’m not your escape goat 🤷🏾♀️

One thing to look out for in continuing education, contract clauses. Read your company contract. Most have clauses that prevent you from leaving the company. And if you leave you will probably have to pay back all expenses that your company contributed to your education.

Don't help others with their projects. Other coworker's may try to place their work on you. Say No and have boundaries.

I’m not black, but as a Filipino who’s the first in the family to join corporate. I 100% understood the pain of having to navigate things on my own. And that was mostly due to trial and error. I completely agree with most of what you mentioned and half of them I wish someone taught me ealry in my career to save me the burden and frustration

I definitely agree with not dating coworkers.
I learned the hard way not to make friends at work but this is definitely good reinforcement.
Shockingly the majority of employees break all the rules that you mentioned.
I’ve had people tell me that I think I’m on a high horse for not wanting to hangout with coworkers outside of work.
I slipped one time will never do it again.
Coworkers are messy and I think some of my male coworkers were messier than women very sad lol.
Hi Helena, as it relates to the emails. I would not recommend cc'ing on each email unless the immediate supervision or other management requests it. If it something serious like HR related then cc would be good. Also if the employee has had other issues and need proof. It would be great to print out emails. But I agree to be mindful to reply all. Black professionals may want to consider taking a hospitality, customer service and etiquette class to build internal rapport to build those relationships to advance. All your tips are good.
