A visit to artist Katie James’ artist’s house and garden – jewel colours and a rich palette x

Very inspired by last week’s visit to Rachel Ashwell’s house and her focus on her colour palette I thought it would be fun to have a visit to this contrasting house, with a stronger palette, where my friend artist Katie James lives.

The garden here, a typical, long, narrow, suburban London garden, was completely empty but for the large,…

  1. I am inspired to try a gallery wall with all kinds of art . Amateur, professional, made by our kids or cats, and family fotos and treasures tossed in.Feather, moss, you name it. Inspired. My color palate? I loveso many colors but Orange seems to be taking over my life.I have a bright blue spray painted table , it brightens up the far end of the yard, now I think I need more of this. Thank you Katie and Georgie!

  2. What an incredible artist!! Stunning works.Wow, absolutely gorgeous home! I want to cuddle up with a cup of tea and a good book here ( after spending hours soaking in all of the beautiful art ). Really enjoyed this a lot! I am off to sew curtains and hang some art!

  3. Interesting question about personal palettes . A couple of friends told me they loved my style/ colour combinations , and I didnt know I had one . On reflection I think my colours are cream , lemon highlight splashes , tealy blue , silver green with black accents . My lounge feels like living in the midst of a vibrant greenhouse with all my trailing Monsteras and spikey Sansevieras taking over like Triffids . Not strange really considering I started my gardening life age 12 school holiday job pricking out annuals for our Town Council gardens and for the rest of 60yrs after that working in Nurseries and gardens including latterly establishing my own 1/4 acre . Sth Is NZ means a garden full of fruit just now , plums , lemons , avocado , pears , olives , almonds , feijoa , tomato ,courgette , capsicums , basil , parsley etc etc and the freezer is filling fast . Patiently waiting to turn into winter soups and crumbles .

  4. What a gorgeous home and garden! As a thrifter/hoarder, I found it a wonderful journey through the home and garden, taking note of the colour combinations and unusual ways she displays her treasures. Thank you for taking us along!

  5. Love the way Katie uses meaningful family photos & relics as decor. Great vibe! No junk from Hobby Lobby! Lol Her aesthetic feels very English to me, or at least how I always imagine quaint & historic English homes to be when I read about them in books (from my home in America 😉). Especially the lovely curtains! The great old English novels always have much ado about the proper curtain fabric. Quintessential! And hers are so on-point! Hope we get to see more of Katie & her lovely home & garden. So inspirational! 🌿

  6. hello i loved this video of an artist's home and garden and also particularly liked the tour of rachel ashwell''s home. was wondering if u would film more home tours in england, as i love the decor there which is a little different than here in canada- thankyou for your lovely videos!!!

  7. That was the most delightful visit, thank you! The luxurious garden and then, at the end, an artist studio! Just what I would like to have. I’m astounded that she could take a plain, long, backyard, and make it like a little paradise. So homey, just beautiful.

  8. From a Psychotherapist and Artist, the house is just perfect!!! I have also purchased my late mother's house and re-adapting is definitely a careful and creative process.

  9. Outside here in Eastern Newfoundland Canada today is a mixture of snow, ice pellets, and rain – watching this video was a true form of escapism as a result 🙂 Proof that you don't need a huge garden to create a beautiful space!
