Great video, the train looked OK; were hot meals served on the train? You mentioned that travelling by air from Algiers to Oran might be better since your train arrived 4 hours late. But having travelled throughout Algeria on four different occasions, I might not agree with you on that! I have travelled by Air Algerie on 8 different occasions between Algiers and the Saharan oases. And the planes never arrived on time! The most punctual plane was two hours late but most planes arrived some 3 or 4 hours late. When I asked fellow passengers about this, they simply said "C'est normal!' One flight between Ghardaia and Tamanrasset was actually cancelled completely and we only left the following day [but the airline did put us a up at a hotel for the night with all meals included].

Last time Id did that trip it was during the war. Equipped with military, anti IED's installations and helicopter patrols.
Just watched the Michael Palin documentary of the same journey. Amazing to think he had to travel with guards as it was then the most dangerous train route in the world. Looks completely different now!
