Cessna Grand Caravan Adventure to Kenya's Masai Mara with Safarilink

In this video we fly from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to a small dirt airstrip in Kenya’s Masai Mara, see what it takes to keep wildlife off the runways, and then head back to Nairobi with a couple of stops enroute. Airfields visited include Mara Naboisho (Ol Seki Airstrip), Olari Airstrip, and Mara North Conservancy Airstrip. Our ride for all…

  1. What a trip! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am in NE Ohio where the only wildlife I see are squirrels and deer. Note: it appears that the ¨gear¨ on this aircraft does not go ¨up¨ in flight; it is visible @ 4:03

  2. Southern Airways Express flies Cessna Grand Caravans from IAD to various small regional airports in Pennsylvania. Living near IAD, I often see the aircraft flying by.

  3. Thank you Gabriel for taking me on a beautiful flight to Kenya and Nome on another flight. From flying single engines to commercial jets, so real when you are in touch with the basics real flights at one with the flight deck, the environment, humbling.

  4. Living in Alaska, I get to fly on the Grand Caravan quite a bit. It’s a regional workhorse around here, with airlines such as Ravn and Alaska Seaplanes having large fleets of them. For me, it’s always been more bumpy taxing on the ground than in the air πŸ˜†

  5. That brought back very fond memories of flying these aircraft and routes on an almost weekly basis to visit suppliers out in the bush when I worked in Kenya a few years ago. Cheers & thanks again for such a wonderfully edited and narrated trip report

  6. I have flown on them 4 times in Madagascar with MAF. The first and Second time was out to a remote village to the west of Tana. It was a chartered flight with 5 passengers and two 4 wheelers. That was crazy fun. Flights 3 and 4 were from Tana to Mahjanga on the Northwest Corner of the island. Here again it was a charter and we had a full plane. Loads of fun. I agree it is not a quiet airplane at all and can be a little rough but still fun to ride.

  7. WOW Gabriel, now you are talking! Great video of a place in the world that I have not been. The Cessna Caravan has truly been a huge success for Cessna. I loved your seat, I soloed in a Cessna 152. This is a MUCH bigger "high wing" with the fabulous PT6 engine upfront. BTW great video of the animals. Thanks again sir.

  8. What a coincidence! 8 years ago I used to drive up and down Ol Seki airstrip (Naboisho) to clear the animals off. I have flown on 5Y-SLG and visited the amazing Ol Kinyei Conservancy dozens of times despite being from London. Bit of a surprise seeing this pop up in my flightradar email! Great that you got to see some wildlife!

  9. Occasionally I have this pipe dream where I give up my airline Captain job (and all the stress that comes with it) to fly Caravans in Africa…
