  1. To be honest the importance of this canal is overplayed. Sure it's good to have, but it's quite shallow so the real economic impact is not as big as PL gov was selling it at the time of the construction.

  2. Regarding economy of that project it is all BS. That will take 650 years to return. When you build this kind of stuff you never can think that way. When motorway will refund for example free motorway connecting Berlin and Paris??? NEVER WILL RETURN COZ IT IS FREE. 😅

  3. When one considers payback, National Security is the dominant criteria if in the original consideration. Payback can then be opened up by considering the cost of other potential situations much worse. In1980, the UK had World beating Gas & Electrical systems making the UK self sufficent in Energy and a potential exporter for years to come.
A political decision to sell control of the assets, completely revearsed that position, and 30 years later leaves the UK, vulnerable in Energy management and control.
The assets position of 1980 has been diminished by bad asset additions and lack of maintainance.
The important issue is to build the absolute best resource at the time.
The cardinal mistake is to ration the project like 2 lane & 3 lane motorways of the 70s/80s, only to find that had the original planned resources been built, the later additional cost could have been much reduced or even avoided.

  4. This canal should be celebrated because it removes a potential point of conflict or contention. However, I doubt the Russians care about this as much as the author is alleging. It won’t affect them much.

  5. The truth is completly different… in fact, it was mainly Germany that was against it, because it is competition for Hamburg, Leipzig and even Rotterdam, all in cooperation with the Russians. It's EU

  8. As if a country could not decide for itself and had to constantly live in the shadow of another and a hostile one that was resposible for deaths of tens of thousands after the invasion during ww2. Though the subject is a canal and on a construction focus channel it would be nice to see a propper fact finding in the material as oppose to a rather weak research.
