As a person my issue with polygamy is consent. In some cultures the brides are often young and have no choice and this includes the Morman groups in the USA. If everyone is a consenting adult and there is not threat of ending up in some form of hell or being ostracized from either family or society then there shouldn't be an issue.
This is how society should work!
I knew JESUS wasn't Real here we go
Why should I be with more then one woman?
It is enough that one thinks I am an idiot and it is alot easyer to avoid getting knifekilled if I only need to worrie about one woman
This is a quite fascinating video, and the artwork/paintings (AI generated?) is remarkable. I have two questions, though: 1. What the hell language is represented in some of the art? It looks to me to be a mixture of English and gibberish. 2. Why does the Incan Emperor look Caucasian? Just curious.
I'm constantly amazed by the depth of knowledge showcased in these history videos.
ARGHHH !!! ……. it's an ape madhouse !!! 🤪🤪🤪 ❓
Too bad that the video is silent on the subject of polygyny in biblical times. King David had eight wifes. King Salomon, his son, had 700 wives and 300 concubines. Everything else pales in comparison…!
Here in the US many women practice serial polygamy, where a woman dumps a man to marry another to get resources from several suckers(ex-husbands).
11:10: Don't know if this was another reason for pallake at the time, but it would allow a man whose wife was childless to legitimize children to carry on the line.
Great content. Great graphics.
1:10 in and already stinks of bias and judgment!
Something tells me that this isn't a very reliable sorce of i formation. 😠
Dear HBF,
Thanks for this intriguing, thought-provoking and nicely researched video. BTW, what is the number of the Mozart symphony playing in the background?
However, I do not see any persuasive reasons to suppose that polygamy but not polyandry was commonplace, during the vast majority of our evolutionary history as hunter-gatherers in the much mooted 100-150 member tribes.
The following psycho-biological facts strongly indicate the high prevalence of polyandry, within a general and florid polyamory in Homo sapiens, during the many 100's of thousands of years of our larking around in our sub-Saharan African EEA (environment of evolutionary adaptation):
(i) the undeniable fact of sperm competition with women's vaginas, uteruses and fallopian tubes;
(ii) the fact that women can cruise at a very high erotic elevation, dipping in and out of orgasmic crescendos, far longer than most men can thrust away without climaxing and ejaculating;
(iii) the fact that women patently find thrilling both imagined and actual fucking of multiple men, provided all these men are woman-oriented and women-adoring;
(iv) the fact that having multiple sources of semen vastly improves the total reproductive rate of a woman.
Any tribal social, romantic, erotic conventions that developed these polyamorous policies, would manifestly outcompete other tribes, both in total tribal fertility, and in the power to rapidly increase populations in circumstances of environmental fecundity.
Especially if one assumes that all women in a particular tribe tend towards synchronisation of menstrual cycles, and thus the tribe can predict the dates for indulging in florid, public and highly polyamorous mating rituals.
Its also important to note ones own cultural and philosophical and romantic-erotic context.
Ask Parisians whether women are inherently and highly and delightedly polyamorous, towards both other women and men, and the answer would be a blasé, "Bien sur". Ask a bunch of hypocritical and emotionally infantile Americans, caught still in the overhang of general patriarchal Abrahamic monotheism, a particular Puritan dreariness, and dour Protestant patriarchal-capitalism, and the answers will at best be a lot less truthful.
What do you think, my dear History-But-Fast?
Love andrea
Now that im older, in my sixties. Being that in my early years i was a hopeless romantic. I've had several butifull woman that i was in love with. All have added to my life experiences. In my late thirtys i married my lovely wife and had three children with her .they are grown up and in the college years. A lot of growth comes with that. All that being said I'm not convinced that people are meant to be 100% monogamous.
Here in Utah we have never heard of such a thing.
(11:23)If I recall the story correctly, Odysseus tried his best to remain faithful as well.
Got to love government loop holes to the law
European men in the new world practiced polgmy immediately after arriving and continued to practice it well into the 19 century. A native wife or enslaved (or free) black wife in addition to an official white wife either living abroad in the home nation or living separately on their colonial holdings. The result of this common practice is the dominant mestizo and mulatto populations of Latin America and the universal European ancestry among the descendants of the formally enslaved African descended population of the English speaking Americas
Not many people understand the other side of the coin: In-Laws.
I find it weird and disgusting.. personally. But hey if nobody lying playing with ones feelings.Who cares right 😄
Seeing some comments down below. We're supposed to be high then animals. Just becouse animals do polygamy. Doesn't mean we have to do it. Some animals eat $#¡t. Are you going to do that. Lol😂
That was really interesting. Lest we forget. Ancient Judaism believed in polygamy andIn ancient India was also practice. And child marriages. Wow. It explains a lot about humans.. Good stuff 👽🤙🤙
I grew up around the modern American practitioner's of polygamy they are interesting people and they also have very definite rules around the practice.
Origins? It has always been around. "Monogamy is the rule!" Well that viewpoint is typical of a RWNJ mindset that treats the world as if everybody is a brown paper bag, and if a person is not a brown paper bag then they are wrong and outside of the norm. The norm has ALWAYS been people doing people kinds of things and not being brown paper bags.
Modern shock about ancient practices that have been around for over 1,000,000 years? Yeah. Victorian Eara thinking was the outlier. What was "Proper" was codified. But that didn't stop people. With RWNJ thinking, their whole point is to stop people. Not stopping people from doing harm, because RWNJ have no issue at all with causing harm. RWNJ and codified codes of conduct are built to affirm RWNJ precious little crybaby infantilized minds.
Polygamy has never been in the majority. But it has always been around. It will always be around, no matter what laws or draconian measures RWNJs come up with because they refuse to grow up.
Much thanks for making this educational video. As usual there is a wide and deep understanding of the historical subject you are addressing, in the short amount of time it is covered, which is not common knowledge to the average Westerner.
😑 . . . Oops. I’m willing to accept the marriages of multiple spouses UNDER the condition that only singles pop the question, not those who’re already married. To ensure this, if an unmarried girl asks the married man she is crushing on to marry her, & both the man & his spouses agree, then the girl who popped the question will be the groom & the married guy will be the bride.
Pack animals and an alpha type. Female hypergomy and the adaptation to share.
I don’t know who’s responsible for me being born into a monogamous society, but honestly dude, fuck you 😂
