Would love to watch this if the sound was sorted out
Good documentary covering up to 1968/72 only. These pioneers inspired the great East African runners that came 20+ years later to include the current crop of Ugandans. Many women, especially from Ethiopia and Kenya have also reached the top internationally. North Americans also excelled in many events – Gammoudi, Aouita, Morceli,and the great El G – his WRS in the mile/1500 have now held up for ~25 years. Glad to see that Mamo Wolde got some special recognition; four Olys in (1956-72), winning four medals. After regime change in Ethiopia, he was tried and imprisoned on a (somewhat) trumped up charge and jailed. Bikila, of course, remains The Man, a hero of mine since 1960.
This is so beautiful, it must be shown to our children so that they can see what the men who came before them achieved not for glory but for country.
