The Russians are using the same cookbook they used in Syria. First secure airports, in this case with SAMs, then send expeditionary force for mapping and locating potential targets and threats. After that, a larger force will be sent to unalive any terrorist or the people that fund them.

Last week the CEDEAO/'ECOWAS had a meating, their final statment is somehow disconnected to the reality, they speak of the 3 countries like they were about to leave the club, in a way dening that they already left the group.
Let's recall. The Nigerien Coup was not one, lets say, of a pro-russian mouvement. Started as a palace revolution with some anti-french inch, but soon turn out a popular mouvement as people come to the streets in support of the coup, demanding several social, politcal and economic reforms. The french public reaction was to insencitive, as a result the popular mouvement soon after took the form of anti-french riots and by association anti-neo-colonialism. When western powers intended to vilify the coup as russian made, things got worse and suddendly imprivised own made Russian flags appeared all over the country. Months passed and there was no Russian envolvement.
It was ovious that the sanctions from the CEDEAO/ECOWAS made the country go look for allies. Mali and Burkina were there but it was clear they need a strong hand. As there come no appeasement from the west, Niger need a best paal, it was an easy choice. With the conquest of Adeevka Russia now is prowdly claiming victory, see the Security Council meeting of yesterday.

I personally hate the term, islamists. As a Muslim, I find it sort offensive. It's as if a person thinks that the Islamic law should be the law of the land automatically makes them a terrible human. I think a land that is majority Muslim should want to be an Islamic state with Islamic law as their government. That doesn't mean that we should just kill everyone who isn't a Muslim, because Islamic law actually gives rights to minority groups under the protection of the government. I feel like using the term islamist automatically paints a picture that Islam is bad.
