  1. Deadliest Roads and Trains Congo Katanga

As a rule of thumb, railway maintenance and service is shoddy in DRC or Congo 🇨🇩 (The larger Congo with Kinshasa as it’s capital. The smaller Congo to the Northwest has Brazzaville as it’s capital. It
can be a bit confusing. We are definitely in DRC)

This is a deadliest roads episode but it’s all about the Swallow, a train, originating in the province of Katanga. Congo Katanga.

The train left Lubumbashi five days ago is expected to stop in Kamina. First train to stop here in five months. Passengers and vendors wait. As news of the arrival spreads, people make their way to the station. A phenomenon that repeats itself along the entire passage from East to West.

    We’re traveling with the Swallow.
Starting point Lubumbashi in the Southeast,
heading west across the southern half of the country via Kamina to Ilebo. No time table. Just wait. For the train to come. Eventually it does. The journey is wild, wonderful, boisterous, and beautiful. You can’t mind crowded trains though. No social distancing here (the footage was shot way before the pandemic although I can’t imagine it’s much different now)

Travel with the train 🚂 is cheap
It stops everywhere. There’s a jump on jump off thing going on. And an instant pop up market at every stop.

It looks pretty awesome. Seriously, I want to take this train one day.
    Enjoy!

  2. Hats off to the Toyota 4×4. Best one on the road. Not a pretend off roader with leather seats and aircon. I have a similar 1983 Nissan Patrol. Those men with the bicycles are real men. Here where I live in Eswatini the children walk up to 30 km to school and back from age 5. They learn early to be tough and determined. Real strength comes from the mind.

  3. First Western countries loot their resources and rich earth metals through 100 of years of lotting, then they corrupt their government or buy them completely, so that they can keep on looting. Wait one more thing, they make documentaries like these to earn more money…

  4. I’m from SC, I’m as white as rice and never really consider the struggle of others, no matter the race. To see these men’s prized possession and only tool to work with, a bicycle that they load down so heavy they have to push it, and can only eat one time per day and that’s cassava root from a powder if I’m correct. Jesus, these are some excellent examples of strong people man. We honestly don’t know how good we have it in America. We run around worrying about people trying to cross over to America and damn, how dare they try to give their kids a better life in America right? Wrong.. if I was there and could get to America I’d be the first one on the boat or train. This world isn’t a fair place, but Congo is a special kinda hell altogether.

  5. What is 600 euros for king for ×30 people? Please! My husband sends 50-100 $ to his brother each month to Cameroon, its a tiny fortune, plus so many older ones a dying we are always sending money, what is money for?just to remain in coffers?

  7. European governments and the west have no goodwill towards African people all they can tell Africans is too stop having children while the population of whites in Europe are dwindling down,,same for the U.S.
