  1. Min11: Im sorry but we all know if there was a smart contract in place which effectively forces the customer (who,don't forget, is under financial pressure) to pay upfront, you would not be getting that contract… because the customer would not want to pay upfront.

    Now, you would tell me: "that's the point, I've just avoided doing a job without getting paid!" To which I say, majority of businesses do business on account/in credit, and they do that to manage their cash flows (even those customer with strong liquidity positions- ie the customers you dó want).

    So yes a smart control could avoid the non-payment problem for sure, but it's worth noting that you are effectively filtering your customer base for only those customers who are truly willing to pay cash thereby significantly decreasing your no. Of customers!
