This is my great aunt, I was just looking for more information on her death. Her mother was away when she ran away and she was not “allowed” to go she just took off.
I have a huge Spanish bayonet plant and now will think about her when I look at it.
This is a super serious subject, but I can't get past the injustice to Boca Raton. ra-TONE, not RAT-ten.
There are so many people who should never be allowed to have the care and feeding of children. (My mother being one of them.) This was just so preventable. RIP Stephanie.
Raton is pronounced “rah TONE”.
Boca Raton Pronounced Boca Rah-tone
🙂 I live near there
I was wondering about a Ted Bundy angle, given the year and state, but it looks like in 1976 he was on trial out west. His FL murders didn't start until 78.
She probably was strangled or smothered if they couldn’t find any trama.
My daughter is 21 & I still insist on knowing her whereabouts & who she’s with, even these days you can’t be too careful.
RIP!
Hopefully the case is solved soon.the poor girl didn’t deserve to die like that
I don't know how to tell you the proper way but thats not how you pronounce Boca Raton. Im sure you know that you can Google the word and a voice will pronounce it out loud for you as many times as you need.
I was super shocked when they said she had gotten a tattoo at 15 in the 70’s. Tattoos in 80’s were still extremely taboo and frowned upon unless you were a biker, served time in prison or had been in the service. And if a female had a tattoo😮she was perceived as a low life. Boy, how things have changed.
It’s amazing such clear photos of her exist, considering they were taken in the 70’s.
Whatever the circumstances surrounding her death may be, I find it incomprehensible that any parent would allow their 15 year old daughter to go anywhere further than the county borders, let alone another state without even confirming the identities of her traveling companions. The fact that there is no record of her being reported as missing demonstrates just how much her parents "cared about" her. Their irresponsible actions, or rather the lack thereof, is, in my opinion, complicity to her demise. I am sorely tempted to suggest that they are undeserving of any closure because they contributed to the poor girl's death.
This incident could have been easily averted, had parents acted wisely, even if they let a 15 year go they should have paid attention to the people who were accompanied her. Specially when there daughter had a history of running away. Again assistance of psychics so futile in cases like this.😳
So Detective Rick Roth, is that Mike Tyson pronunciation of Detective Rick Ross?
I don't get why the parents never filed a missing person's report. I find that unbelievable. Sensitively done as always DC.
Another amazing video thanks.
Thank you DC. I hope Stephanie is at peace now and that her loved ones will get the answers they need 🙏🏼💔🕊️🦌
They had 8 kids. That's all we know about the parents really. We don't know enough to judge them.
What about the person who charged 25 cents to see a skeleton?
RIP Stephanie. Free spirit.
So tragic your body could have been identified 9 months after you disappeared… but instead it took 28 years to be identified and bought home to family.😢
I’m so sorry this happend to you Stephanie. RIP free spirit.
I don’t understand something.
If Stephanie’s body had no signs of trauma, broken bones, etc Why did Police suspect homicide?
It’s more than possible Stephanie died accidently while alone in the Forrest.
An accidental drug overdose has been mentioned in comments but what about an illness? It is rare – but sudden medical emergencies do happen sometimes. For example
If you suffer a burst appendix and don’t get medical help immediately you can die.
Scary but true.
On a less dramatic level, Stephanie may have gotten lost in the Forrest and spent days and days walking in circles, trying to find her way out of there …only to get more lost. She may have run out of food and water, been exposed to the elements. She may have passed away 😢slowly and all alone. ( I hope she didn’t )
I’m not understanding why it was stated Stephanie’s death was likely a homicide?
There is NO evidence to suggest it was a homicide at all?
This is a tragic story of a young girl from a dysfunctional family.
Oh my goodness! I was born November 8th, 1960, in Florida, too. For parents to just suggest she not go, to me is unthinkable. My parents had control over what I did and didn't do, as I think most parents did back then and things like this happening was the reason why. May she rest in peace🙏
My parents were strict back then, I had to go straight home. My dad was driving his truck and saw a girl that looked like me walking on the road near the beach. He whipped that truck around and stopped right behind her. Probably scared her, I was just happy it wasn’t me. 😇
I hope the cops will find out who killed her. Thank you for sharing this story.👍
Just trying to help. Your pronunciations of Florida place names don't match that of the locals.
Stephanie’s parents never filed a missing persons report; that speaks for itself. Fifteen years old. Thankful for Florida’s Major Crimes Detectives on this case. I truly hope Stephanie’s homicide is solved.
😭💔
She was such a beauty! Her parents had their hands full with kids but even in the 70’s most parents would never allow their child to go across the country or run off with some random guy-it sounds to me that they couldn’t handle her at all and gave up. It was harder to control teens that ran away back then and cop’s barely care now and back then they didn’t care at all but murders were very rare. And maybe she wasn’t murdered she may have passed from an accident or drugs/H. Boca isn’t too far from Marathon so she and the guy probably hopped into the car and ran down to the keys – it’s like another country down there—-for just some fun and it’s so sad that she died so young. 😢
We cant be sure that She actually went on holidays with Her boyfriend – it may just be a cover, misleading the police.
15 year old kid?
Quite early as for co-ed holidays.
Whoever she went off with is the person that murdered her imo why has he never come forward to identify himself if he's innocent and the fact that she had run away prior to her murder indicates things were likely strained with her parents which explains their unconcerned attitude about her disappearance
Her parents what else can you say really they clearly need to take responsibility for what happened to her considering their we couldn't care less attitude what a shocking attitude to have when their own child went missing and was later found murdered and they clearly weren't bothered when she went off with that guy i mean what sort of parents react like that
I agree with below-such lazy parenting. Terrible
In 1976, with them being so liberal, I can just about guarantee you the parents were stoned hippies. Either that OR the poor girl got hold of some of her parents’ drugs, overdosed, and the parents put her there to cover what happened. Another reason no ‘missing persons report’ was filed.
Boca Raton is pronounced Boca Ra-TONE.
WOW. She just took off for the other side of the country and nobody said stop!
So the parents never filed a missing persons report. The mid 70s had a freedom to it. I and a few friends drove from Michigan to Florida for spring break. We were almost a week late getting back. Our families were concerned but not frantic.
It's a shame that there are wicked ppl that prey on other ppl. 😢
They "advise her" not to go??? At 15 if my kid tried anything of the sort, he would have been sent to his room and not allowed to leave the house. Does no one parent their kids?
I'll bet she went all screamy at the end, bonk – bonk on the head.
So obviously the male companion she traveled with must know what happened. Had he been an upright individual, he would have reached out to law enforcement in the event of some sort of accident, and then got in touch with her family. No mention of who she was traveling with specifically here, I bet he is the key.
The agonizing decades of uncertainty, the relentless search for answers, and the bittersweet closure finally brought to Stephanie family are profoundly moving. To think that her identity remained hidden for so long, her family clinging to hope amid the darkness of uncertainty, is both haunting and deeply saddening. Let us all heed their call and come together to bring solace to Stephanie's family and to ensure that her memory is honored with the truth and justice she deserves.🤍
What if, many years from now, they discover DNA results are not as reliable as we now think they are, like polygraph tests are now known to be unreliable but in the early years they were believed to be infallible?
Dam !
