As Africa’s visa restrictions fall, what will it mean for Africans? | The Take

Visa-free travel is on the rise in Africa, with Malawi the latest country to ease restrictions. Earlier this year, Kenya took an even bigger step, going visa-free for all visitors. The move left Kenyans asking if this will lead to more accessible travel. Travel restrictions have been labeled by some as a “new apartheid” rooted in racism. But if…

  1. Its always scam!…ETA costs 30$/entry…Single entry is the only option….Say, i take a day trip to Dar es Salam, TZ or Kamapala, UG i still have to reapply and pay another 30$ every re-entry…Its a BIG NO…..So, i had to cancels my Kenya travels and instead went to Rwanda…Real Visa and FREE Huge welcome, $ dollar paid to immigration….but spent around 1700$ for my 6 days stay to well deserving Rwandan communities and businesses who had a very welcoming attitude to visitors…I highly recommend Rwanda.

  2. loL No different still have to send your details 48 hours before and pay …. What's the difference? Why cant they just remove the visa and 50$ fees like most countries.

  3. The left in the west has weaponized the free movement of people from less developed countries by rapiibly pursuing really crazy immigration policies which lets in large numbers of immigrants far in excess of the host countries abilties to economically and socially integrate them. So you end up with balkanized communities lacking any social cohesion, strained social services, backlash against anyone appearing foreign, including those who integrated. This is by design. The liberals dont do this because they are the champions of the down troddened. They seek the overthrow of the existing order.

  4. It's simple. Leave Africa borderless amongst all African countries, and ensure all foreign visa agreements between African countries and all non-African countries are reviewed to ensure reciprocities. Finally, let's secure our borders to enhance the safe transportation of goods and services.

  5. The issue isn't diseases, the issue is the Western world trying to see what they're up to. They don't want these nations building any type of equity. I will tell the rest of the world, mind your business.

  6. I am watching from st Elizabeth Jamaica, here in the Caribbean we Jamacian can travel any where in Caribbean without visa , especially the English speaking countries in Caribbean, it so sad to see how its hard for African traveling inside Africa without visa

  7. Thank you so much Al Jazeera English for showing the whole world what this Imperialist white supremacy are doing to the African people. How cruel you can be after saying the continuation is poor yet still you keep coming there for visa free and loot natural resources through the puppet regimes!

  8. It's not visa free you pay for ETA which as a Zimbabwean with previous government you did not pay anything. Its quite deceptive of Kenya to say Visa free. I lost money by changing a flight because they said I needed a visa before flying in

  9. No visa is a joke. You still have to fill in an application/registration – so you can be refused. The fee is 35 Dollars instead of 50 before. The visa you could renew for free for another 3 month. Nowadays you have to leave the country and apply for new (visa). What has changed is the name and some bugs in the software were solved.

  10. But for a kenyan to visit america, europe or australia…you have to provide over 37 documents including title deeds, bank statements, business registrations, natioanal ID cards for all your sibling, marriage cert etc, then you have to beg and cry at the embassy and still you get denied the visa.I wish the same lift could be extended to kenyan residents to enjoy the same while visiting other countries.

  11. Permit me I’ve gone through many comments and am seeing people talking of visas. The bill is for Africans not everyone to enter Kenya visa free. Off course while Africans will be allowed to travel to Kenya visa free there’s certainly gonna be other measures foreigners will have to follow to get in

  12. what i wanna know is why African countries are making strides to open up their borders while the West are making more restrictions to close up their borders?
Why should we make these efforts? Just for money? What about dignity and fairness?

  13. You know iam a Kenyan ,if 🐦 birds can fly freely from country to country, Kenya is visa free,we only have headache applying the visas to USA and Europ ,,maybe they fear African s

  14. This is great for Kenya and all of Africa. We need to remove all restrictions and make it all visa free travel. It’s a great way to develop Africa. There were no visa travel before 1884. Why should there be any now?

  15. Kenya is not visa free, it’s an annoying ETA visa that was poorly designed. They’ve violated all rules of reciprocity with country that were previously ETA visa free. Absolute nonsense.

  16. This is a very good start for the county to hopefully bring in more tourism to uplift the Economy, as the local Kenyans desperately need a tourist revenue boost. Hopefully, the same is for all the African countries to eliminate visa requirements for Africans as a whole. As well, hope the local Kenya Passport renewal/new issuance issue is solved in Kenya, as one reads in the local reports.
