My return home 30 years after Rwanda's genocide – BBC Africa
Victoria Uwonkunda makes an emotional journey back to Rwanda, where she grew up.
She was visiting for the first time since she fled the 1994 genocide with her family at the age of 12.
Victoria retraces her journey from the capital Kigali, to the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In April 1994 extremists belonging to the Hutu…

As a South African i think our independence took away attention from the atrocities happening in Rwanda. Because the genocide was not that popular.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Tutsis also murder Hutu civilians who fled to the Democratic Republic of Congo after the genocide?
ICJ failed people of Rwanda:(

I am from Cameroon and this Rwanda Genocide carried out by the Hutus against the Tutsis in which about a million people or more were slaughtered in the watchful eyes of the international community is a very terrible thing that happened to mankind. I shed tears each time I watch a documentary on that. I am even more surprised how they managed to reconcile and live together as a country after too much hatred and bloodsheed. May God bless Paul Kagame for transforming Rwanda this much within a short time. Yes Rwanda is a great country. Thanks very much for this documentary.
The past six months has been a study for the ages of Humanity – steeped in evil – at its historical worst.
The story of Narcisse and Evariste is also a study for the ages but of humans reaching the very pinnacle of their potential as moral agents capable of rising above animal instinct. Biden, and Sunak on Gaza; Macron (and your war-mongering East European support cast for war in Europe), look on and know SHAME!
A true rwandan .
Nice one Vicky❤
The Belgian soldiers there should be ashamed of letting this genocide occur , you can conquer countries with superior weapons and training but can’t defend them !!
How about Britsh genocides in India, Ireland ,Kenya etc.???
I thought the tootsie (the victims) wetter light skin
Kwibuka 30
Plz correct the title and words here it's not Rwanda's Genocide,it's Genocide against Tutsi
Second Rawanda Genocide is going on in India, Manipur, Govt. Sponsored Ethnic cleaning 😊.
Welcome back home
Please can you really once respect the Rwandans?? It's not Rwandan genocide but it's 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.
I'm Zambian,🇿🇲🇿🇲🥺🥺and the story of the Rwandan genocide is very terrible and heartbreaking,May God continue to heal everyone
Peace to the world.
African leaders who are cultivating ethnic based federalism should learn from Rewdan's history!!!!!! Thank u BBC for the documentary even though u didn't condemn the genocide timely at the time of the event…….
This so called media :
As surviver to you:
1. You are at the wrong side of history.
2. You can't cheat all the peuple all the time.
3. The spirit of our peuple will hunt you and those in denial.
4. The side of the good will be always prevail vis a vis to the evil 😈
So racism exists in Africa and between blacks, this is hardly discussed by the media

😭😭😭😭Africa 😭💐😭💐🙏💐
its not rwandan genocide it's Genocide against tutsi in 1994 and hope you intentionally call it rwanda genocide
Am from Ethiopia 🇪🇹 and am always watch Ruwanda genocide for some reason… and cry and it feels like am there
There are like 350,000 Tutsis living in Rwanda; the rest of them are in eastern Congo killing Africans on the behave of Europeans and Americans
This is disgusting how many time we will have to tell your ignorant british BBC **s the genocide in Rwanda is called a 1994 genocide against Tutsi. Not Rwanda's genocide.
Can we all come to a realization that we are all part of one race already, we are human race.
The world stood by, some even aided and abetted the horrors in Rwanda. Similar horror is currently unfolding in what was Gaza; perpetrators and their accomplices are in Rwanda to "mourn" the Rwandan victims.
The human absurdity has no limits.
To Victoria Uwonkunda: I am glad that you went back to Rwanda! I did the same after 24 years. It has also healed me and brought peace. In addition, in Rwanda, I found inspiration in building a travel platform.
All these years and you still write Rwanda genocide! So sad, it's tutsi genocide FYI. Saying rwanda genocide make it sound like every Rwandan was targeted in 1994 which is false information.
It’s the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, not the ‘Rwandan Genocide’! Get it right or don’t say anything at all!
The Rwandan genocide is a classic case of how humanity failed millions. The genocide still pains me. Where were African leaders when this indescribable horror happened? The then-Organisation for African Union (OAU)? Where was the international community? This story is reminder that history is a mirror to help us shape the present and the future. Powerful story.
Uk robbed u now they using You
BBC it's not Rwandan genocide, it's 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda
I'm wondering why didn't the Tutsis just secede from the country? It was clear the Hutus did not want them in Rwanda so why couldn't they just form their own country? Like when the Igbos were being killed in the North, they seceded and formed Biafra (although that caused civil war), but wouldn't the Hutus be glad to see them go? I dont get sha
Dear writer please edit the title of your story, it's Genocide Against Tutsi not Rwanda's Genocide.
Ok, what I'm finding really disturbing is the smile on his face while recounting about the woman he killed!!!!
It's more than 1 million people killed not 800k
Thank you for sharing this story of forgiveness and resilience. We can all learn from Rwanda and Rwandans.
It is called the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Kagame is the one who started the war he should face charges
Sad how Europeans trick is (some foolish Africans) to turn against ourselves. And until today it hasn't changed 😢
It's sad coz the genocide created by America and the west is never discussed
Now a wave of hatred against homosexual people is coming trough East Africa (especially in Uganda). Homosexual activity can be assessed in different ways (I personally condemn it), but Africans brutally persecute people even for having a different orientation, simply for being gay. Just read the comments to know how great their hatred is. This hate speech is confusingly similar to the RTLM
Title it's not Rwanda's genocide it is GENOCIDE AGAINST TUTSI IN 1994 and more than one million were killed not 800K.
Kigali is such a clean and beautiful city. I visited Rwanda last year.
