Sweden’s government has told its citizens to prepare for war.
The defence minister made the comments last week, as the war in Ukraine drags on, and Sweden moves closer to NATO membership.
The government is reinstating the conscription programme that’s been paused for over a decade — and putting teenagers through boot camp.

It's not mandatory for everyone since there's only a small percentage that gets called. Missing that will basically have you registered for five years without chance of appartment, loan, etc , basically referring to you as a criminal….

Yeah conscription outside of wartime shouldnt happen. If you want to increase numbers increase the pay.
This is a great especially for the integration and assimilation of all the Arab immigrants. They should be required to learn and adapt to their host nations’ customs and traditions of service to the state.

Good on Sweden. Germany should reinstate 12 month mandatory service, too. Maybe including other civil branches as well, but including all genders. It builds defense capabilities, strengthens the reserve long term, gives young people perspective and brings society together by forcing young people of all social groups to collaborate.

I think Sweden has always had a mandatory military conscription, with something like 8k people drafted and trained each year. That’s “total defence” program. They may have expanded the numbers, but it’s not a new thing. Stop misleading people.
