MILKTERT : SOUTH AFRICAN MILK TART : SEPTEMBER PIES S2 E15


So many of you requested that I make a South African Milk Tart or Melktert both because it’s delicious and because our son Andrew lives there while he is serving as a missionary! This tart came together beautifully! It was so enjoyable to make and even sweeter to share with the fam!

  1. I've been loving the new recipes I've never seen before. Also very much have been loving the aprons and hair. The critics have been a little rough lately. LOL some of their expressions have me ROFL 😂

  2. This seems comparable to or similar to a Custard Pie. Looked delicious 😊😊. Many times when Pearl graces us with her presence 😊 we know she’s shy ☺️ Just wanted to compliment her skin 😀 So very pretty and her sweetness shines every time. Always enjoyed her and Esther and seeing Esther’s great work doing Pearl’s hair.

  3. That looks delicious. I wonder how is it different than a regular custard tart? I don't know how sweet it is but I remember when you made another sweet tart your kids said that the crust could have been sweeter. Martha Stewart has two pie crusts that she uses. He recipe for a regular pie crust is called in French Pat Brisee' and a tart crust recipe which is sweeter is called Pat Sucree'. I use them both all the time and they're both really good. Both recipes are on her website. I look forward each day to see what pie you have made. We're in the middle of a move but when we get settled, I plan to make a lot of the pies that you've made this month. It's fun to see the reactions of your family to each pie. I think that you only made one that they didn't really like. That's a pretty good record!

  4. How about making some gluten free pies with gluten free crust? I've had success with crust recipes that contain sour cream and freezing the crusts that don't use sour cream for 15 minutes before baking. Gluten free can be tricky. Some advice that helped me was don't mix too long, don't bake too long, and if it's something that gets turned out of the don't cool too long.

  5. Anything by Anna Olson is amazing but my family especially likes her butter tarts and chocolate pecan pie recipes. Her cookbooks are beautiful and the recipes are delicious. I definitely improved my pie game when I found her.
