Somali Food is the Best Cheap Meal in Chicago — Dining on a Dime
Follow Dining on a Dime host Lucas Peterson this week as he heads to an unassuming place on the near north side of Chicago: Mogadishu Somali Restaurant. It’s a restaurant particularly popular with cab drivers, who flock to Mogadishu for tasty East African cuisine.

I love that green hot sauce so much. Its so simple to make but pairs well with the rice
This is not everybody's breakfast in Somalia; it depends, some eat this, others eat muufo, malaay(fish), sugaar (small meat sauted with onions, fresh garlic, and tomato) – this us popular. Others may eat Dalacbilash for breakfast; which a vegeterian breakfast, while some others eat mashkaaki (grilled on charcoal liver), plus Xulbo (Fenucreek), and bulbeeti. This kind of breakfast is only known in the coastal areas if Banadir, such Marka, Migadishu, and Barawa.
So, Somali food are different according to the region and to their income.
There are a ton of African cab drivers in NYC and African Uber drivers in the suburbs. They're honestly the nicest, if you're tired and don't wanna talk they'll respect that, if you're feeling talkative they'll have great conversations
As a Somali banana is not for breakfast, going on the record. Only for rice and pasta
Thank you for doing this.
No matter the country…Black folks will give you an insulting nickname! Smh 😩 😂😂
Their name calling is another level bro
The main thing is, is that Somalia does not try to bring all of it to the United States. Obviously you left for a reason. Don't try to change the country that you came to. Our country is liberal to a fault. But don't try to abuse that. "The nail that sticks out gets hammered"
I know Somalis from Munich, Germany, they are about the most vehement Anti-Christians in the world and will try to even stop other Africans to believe in Lord Jesus, they were so intolerant. In Somalia, they are not even permitted to celebrate Christmas. Poor Country, need to pray for them
That nickname at the end was hilarious 😂
I knew they will give that nickname 😂.

Was literally there today. Group of drivers talking/eating/laughing. Little intimidating for those new. EVERYONE was welcoming and engaging. Including the patrons! Very inclusive, especially to those unaware of the culture!

The reason muslim people eat with right hand is because satan eat with left
Anchera
as i Somali when i was younger traveling around the horn i found the slight variations in injera amazing compared to what i was used to with my mums. it was really interesting how something so similar can be different at the same time. like when i tried Ethiopian injera for the first time i found it less sweet to my mums more tangy like in a citrus way and went well with heavier dish's as it cut through the richness. Somali anjera is a bit milder a bit sweeter can be used a basically bread if you wanted and yemeni malawax is much sweeter in comparison. all so similar yet different it beautiful
our food is the best food i have ever ate
Mogadishu Restaurant is Chicago is the BEST!!!!
I really missed canjera so much😋😋
