Mountains of Old Donated Clothes Choke Beautiful Beach

A mountain ridge of garbage mars the beauty of a beach in Ghana. One of the chief culprits is textile waste from industrialized nations in the west, an unintended consequence of charity. When used clothing is donated, it gets shipped to places like Ghana, where it is sold in markets. Some of the clothes can be repurposed. But a lot of it ends…

@loristar123

Its not "donated" Goodwill sells it to Africa for super cheap to get rid of the waste. I met with a spokesperson from Goodwill that told us this.

@garycarpenter6433

They should do that for your old clothes and I hope they get them washed and sorted out

@pinkroses135

It's all white man's fault. 😂 Even though we're a hyper consumeristic melting pot battling the disease of fast fashion.

@pinkroses135

REDUCE reuse recycle. People can't recycle much of anything when their facilities reject everything.

@gabbybliss5602

underlying issue is profit the thrift companies in usa and UK sell to a reseller in their country they weigh the clothes sort pack it up then sell it in to buy used donated clothes that didn’t sell and then sell them for profit to Ghana or Kenya and the. The government taxes the small business owners on the bales of clothes and when they open the mystery bales half of it is so damaged they can’t resell it again

@jacobl7451

when clothing quality is so bad, its
even garbage to the Africans you donate to

Designed in American, Make it in China, Dump it in Africa,

–the American way.

@benjfortnite7190

Wow, just wooooawa

@avarageplayer200

In the Philippines they call it okay okay..

@AK-de7jn

Wowww I thought those people get donated clothes for free..

@Proj_Doomsday

That is why I don't donate/recycle anything. If you throw it away the first time. It will go where it belongs.

@yourname993

So sad what man has done to this once beautiful planet

@JonesLucero

We call that ukay-ukay here in the Philippines hahaha

@davidbates4096

How about worrying about United States first quit donating you won't have this problem

@joannperales8477

Wow- such a waste and yet you see children in different countries with nothing to wear. And why do they sell them? They should give away to anyone who needs it. There should be a way to recycle all that waste. Make blankets or curtains or anything- it’s material that can be made into endless possibilities. So sad.

@leyroy1980

Doesn't matter
They live like trash anyways and don't believe in a trash can

@JaybayJay

I would definitely start a eco friendly safe recycling plant to turn these old clothes back into their basic fabrics to be remade into new clothes.

@kelseymarie6524

Does reselling the item like on poshmark or vinted count ? It’s not being thrown away 😞

@randywallace4888

Donate locally and to charities not big box chains, also blankets for yourself or local charities to help the poor

Now all we need to do is send edible shirts

Inside Edition…giving the viewers no information and asking poor questions since 1989…

@graphitepencil6522

All the clothes you donated ended up in the hands of businessman.

@jxxnmatt2065

This mass production is producing for generations not in existence yet….ridiculous.

@doet707

Must find some vintage heat in there

@rdelamadrid

We'll be the death of this planet yet…

@alazar3746

Wow if only they had thought of international selling resale clothes

@carriemel1

So what should we do?

@SteelCowboy

Racist! 🤣

Dead white mans clothes. Is everyone else just walking around naked then 🤔

@dirk480

“Dead white mans clothes”. Lol.
