Celebrated Ghanaian artist Martin King Arthur, popularly known as Kofi Kinaata, has revealed the trajectory his career took from a child in Takoradi to a national icon.

Kinaata revealed his story in an interview with Larry Madowo of CNN who profiled the ‘Confession’ hitmaker for the African Voices program.

According to Kofi, he started writing raps at a very young age, when he was in Class 4 or about 10 years old. He said his parents did not like it when they found out and did all they could to stop him from pursuing music.

He added that aside from music, his other passion was football which he also excelled at. Kinaata said he played colts football and was a fan favorite but eventually, he settled on music.

Kinaata said he had his big break when he won a Kasahari rap battle for the Western Region against artists from Cape Coast. Eventually, Samini’s High Grade Family signed him and the rest is history.
