What is left of the Tubman Center of African Culture is located on a hill overlooking Hotel Wakorlor – formerly Hotel Victoria, probably.
Great job, licia! I worked as an electrician apprentice at the hotel during its construction in 1971 thru 1973, among other projects dedicated to 1973 July 26th Independence celebration at Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County. It was elegantly constructed – it contained a presidential suite. What a scenic view from the location of the Tubman Center of African Culture, which was also destroyed. Iconic buildings like Ducor, EJ Roye, and Hotel Africa are truly missing national treasures. Oops!

This what happens when you have visionless leaders sitting in Monrovia and riding big cars, living in expensive homes and merrymaking at the expense of the people. How can you forget such an historical and breath taking County like Grand Cape Mount county. I prayed God will send us the right group of leaders.
I took that deep breath with you, sister. And look, I just said to myself "the pillars are still firm," and you spoke the same. It brings tears to one's eyes seeing all the waste our nation is witnessing. We pray that investors will be drawn to our nation to help restore some of these historic places for this and future generations.

You are right my dear. The county has a lot to offer, creating jobs and so on. Who going to take the initiative? Politicians of the county do not care about it. Same things happening around the country. For instance, tourism is part of developing a country's economic development. Just look at the Caribbean countries of Jamaica, the Bahamas, Barbados, and other countries that generate their income from tourism. The country has a lot of beautiful tourist places you relax and enjoy. Thank you for showing.
Also, wakorlor means something like under the mountain in the local language, Vai. It is the Vai name for Robertsport. Monrovia is Ducoar in Vai, and the big hotel on the hill in ruins in Monrovia was the Hotel Ducoar. In my mind, the two ruined hotels are a pair.
I stayed there a few times before the war. It was very beautiful. The bar and restaurant were very nice too. The seafood was fresh from the ocean. The walls were lined with wooden, liberian carvings. Each room had a very nice bathroom. There was a nice walk down to the sandy beach. There were round palaver huts for shade down by the water . The hotel had very good water from some kind of purification process from across the road with a water tower. The hotel was very fine, and it was not too expensive.

The fact is showing. there is more to the story of this hotel. This was a private investment that had ownership of this hotel. Funding was approved thru Liberia national bank as a foreign investment company thru what is called Trust, and the Trustee had the deed put in a Cestuique Trust, That means regaless of what happen, no want can touch the property. Because at the time of development, Robert sport was considered 75 percent Rain forest land, and such of improvement was going there, the goverment approve the deal on a Greed level, it will take years to brake this Trust. The present government will not touch that hotel, in their book, investing in Robert sport will be a negative return. On an economic point, that is 100 percent true. The intire Robert sport does not pay taxes, so the Government will not make that area a point on their development list. The local government should be trying to bring investors to improve the city of Robert sport. On the other hand, the Government should give incentives to investors to develop the area, that will not happen. Government accept loan from other countries to invest in liberia, and after few years, they walk away, the officials that work the deal get their cut and they walk away. now that debt has become the debt of liberia on books. As an investor, I would rather buy land and build new, because the title clearing might take years. Look at Hotel Africa, Docarl Hotel, , lots of great Landmarks in monrovia, have been left to become a loss to the country. Back in 2016 we offer the Government of Liberia, a proposed development of the entire liberia, full pave roads from monrovia to every county and to all the bordering countries, build all new drain system, Build New wanter line, upgrade all streets lights, build a more better power plant, this was a credit given to them to paid the debt in 25 years, with a option to up the term to 35 years. The reply we got was ,As this time we do not think the improvement will benefit the country. the only reason why they did it, was because this will effect their Greed, the country will be fully developed, and that will stop them from asking for little grant , 10, million, 5, 20 million and they keep 30 to 61 percent for them self. Liberia is a very small country to develop, but the Greed is killing the country and its people. Anyway , keep up the great work as usual. you are the best.
