Testing Carry On Luggage at the Airport for the Most Popular Airlines

I tested 8 different carry-on bags in different airline sizers to see which ones actually fit vs. what they’re like in the overhead bin. We tried Monos, Travelpro, Level8, Tomtoc, mixi, and Dakine bags.

We test the best carry on luggage for United Airlines, Air Canada, Westjet and more!

  2. The most efficient option from the perspective of outside volume is a travel pack. Suitcases take up inefficient space with a handle and wheels that does not contribute to interior space.
The funny thing about my travel pack is that gate agents don't even look at it. They are laser focused on my wife's wheeled luggage. Its comical.

  3. I love your videos, they are so helpful! – I read on reddit that some AC flights are now using those machines to weigh and laser the size, and the tolerance is much less than it is in those metal sizers – I would be curious what passes in those machines

  4. I'm actually looking at the Level 8 Gibraltar and will be taking an Air Canada flight. The dimensions for the Gibraltar are all around larger than the required dimensions on Air Canada's website. Is there a bit of give in the luggage sizer? Loved your video!

  5. I love joy Rick Steves’ Backdoor backpack carryon. It fits perfectly on tight carryon airlines (made to fit smaller European airlines) and it’s only $79 USD. It ships anywhere. My carryon spinner broke when I flew to Portugal (2016] and I decided no wheels are better on the cobbled streets that are everywhere in the country, and I have used this bag ever since. It’s extremely lightweight and has traveled many, many miles/kilometres over the past 7 years.

  6. Shoot! I have just started watching your channel, Aly, and in about the second video you featured the MIXI 20" bag, which I understood would fit in the overhead bin. As I'm traveling to London soon, I bought the bag immediately on Amazon, even in the same color, green. Now I come to find that the wheels don't fit in the thing, so now I'm worried I'll get in trouble. How much would I have to pay for this? If it's $20.00, that's ok, but if I have to pay $100.00, I'll be upset. Well, may be I'll just google this for a quick answer.

  7. I don't fly often. I have a suitcase that meets dimensions except for the handle is about half an inch too high. Any thoughts if they will make me check it?

  8. Thank you so much. Very helpul.
Funny enough when AirTransat asked me to place my TRAVELPRO Carry-on in their bag sizer box just before embarking, the agent asked me to check the bag at no charge. I thought I was within limits. I suspect that bag sizer was a bit smaller at the departure gate than the one located at the main check-in.😮

  9. Never knew about the Dakine bag. The price seems affordable, it's not as heavy and it looks pretty durable, plus the size is right. I think I found my bag, Thanks!

  10. Great video! I'm trying to decide between the Dakine carry-on roller (42L) and the Travelpro Maxlite softside. While I care about durability, I care more about maximizing space since I'll be packing for 4 months at a time (digital nomad life with washer access!). I welcome any opinions. 🙂

  11. Hi there! I really appreciate your videos that actually test the bags in airport sizers! After watching your videos I’ve decided to get the TravelPro Maxlite 5. However, is the version being tested there the Compact version or the regular version? The dimensions shown are of the Compact, but the name provided is the regular version. I would greatly appreciate some clarification.
    Thank you for your videos!

  12. From what I see happening, pretty soon the only carryon bag you will be able to take will be a briefcase no more than 4 inches thick, or worse yet, only your wallet, which will be thinner than days gone by because you will be forking out so much to fly with more than just the clothes you have on.
