Insightful!!!

From this interview, I believe I am right to conclude that Real Estate Investment legislation in the country is not well established.

I am glad you asked if it was the right time to invest in this sector – to which his answer was 'yes and no' – due to the economic hardship we are facing in Ghana and the world altogether. I also liked how he was on point to mention the Ghanaian Diaspora's interest in the real estate sector in the country. I believe African Diaspora and foreign investors are also interested in this sector and are already making major moves to own properties in the country.

This leads me to question if the Government of Ghana and/or GREDA have any measures put in place, or thought to protect the ordinary Ghanaian with no dual citizenship or foreign privileges from becoming homeless or incapable of owning properties/lands or affording a decent accommodation on their own land in a few years to come.

So far as I am aware, we have no housing benefit system in Ghana for its citizens and senior citizens like in other countries. I believe the lack of legislative measures in the real estate sector could render Ghanaians living in Ghana with no foreign privileges (such as working for dollars or GBPs ) homeless, or unable to own any property in a few years' time. Instead, they would probably have to pay too much for rent in the only country they have citizenship rights. And I am sure we know how having peace of mind of having a home can impact all other sectors of our lives…

Again, my question is, is there any way of protecting Ghanaian citizens from becoming homeless or having to pay too much for housing? Considering the fact that there doesn't seem to be any housing benefits for Ghanaian citizens who may be competing to own properties with others possessing foreign currencies with a higher value as compared to the Ghana Cedis?

I am only curious and not against real estate investment by Ghana/African Diaspora or foreign investors, but I believe this is a question anybody with a little bit of conscience towards the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian may ponder.

Thank you for such a great show…
