  1. Excellent discussion. I can definitely relate to this being a product of Jamaican parents. My father wanted me to be a lawyer so bad and I told him that I'm not cut out for it. He was salty for a while then got over it. You have to live on your own terms when it's all said and done.

  2. love, peace and blessing be upon you Phrankonero…I just want to say that I have sumed all our problems into two variables.1 They gave us or we grew up in poverty and poverty doesn't breed good things..it breeds mistrust and people looking for survival at any means. This allows for the behaviours we emanate as blacks.
    2. They took away our integrity this is easily done with the help of the first variables..and also educating us in a western way that is predominantly not pro blacks ..therefore it was easy for us to jettison our own heritage and follow suit bcos the value place on western heritage and education is high. E.g if you can speak English ur chances of getting employed is high if u can't then you r doomed u can't get a meaningfull job..finally, this ties into my own life as well and I have vowed not to allow my children make the same mistakes ..identify their path early n follow suit ..thank you

  3. oh my God. Phrankleen, you just helped me make up my mind concerning starting a menstrual health and hygiene project in Kenya along with mobile clinic. Am leaving Norway by July to start this. God help me.

  4. It's ok to have all the academic degrees that one can get, but most millionaires and billionaires are not degree holders
Today in most African countries these degree holders are jobless

  5. This competition/pressure is not only from families, it is quite common in African churches especially the funky churches. I know somone who almost drove her husband mad with high BP because people in their church were always changing cars, wearing Ralph Lauren velvet blazers, Jimmy Choo shoes to church, throwing elaborate kid's parties etc. Her husband ended up getting a car loan to buy benz. The wife is always making comments about how some church members have 2 nannies, 3 living rooms, kids in private school etc. She buys Aso Ebi then takes it to a ' posh' tailor to sew for £200. I am so glad i have always been an Old Soul, never bothered about keeping up with the Joneses even when i was 18.

  6. Autocratic describes a way of ruling, but not in a nice way. An autocratic leader is one who rules with an iron fist; in other words — someone with the behavior of a dictator. Autocratic rulers don't tend to be popular. They use fear and control to gain total power over their people.

Our parents should endeavor to approach issues in a more convincing way and not being autocratic.
I’ve practiced this approach and it’s paying off.

  7. We keep referring to Asian folks as Asians community while…no color involved.

My question is why are we referring to ourselves as blacks community and not African communities
but referring to Indians and other asians nationals as Asian communities.

  8. When I was a kid, I told my mum I wanted to be a veterinarian. She screamed at me that “how could I be a doctor for animals when people in the world needed help?” It was “stupid” she said.

Anyway about a decade down the line she found out how much Veterinarians earn and said she regrets discouraging me. At that point I’d already graduated and had a different career so it was a moot point, but words have power, sometimes people are too quick to dismiss something, before they even have knowledge on the topic.

  9. U r very correct. I was never interested in school work. But very interested in reading newspapers. And my dad so me as a complete loser, fortunately he paid school fees though he never liked to until he stopped & discarded me to relatives. But it so turned out , that in newspapers I was looking for business ventures. So now I am worth millions . When back to school & got degrees in nursing at 40 years. Now iam one of dads "favourite "🤔.

  10. " 40.000 BP per annum is not bad as an income , it means 3.300 BP per month . Maybe it is not enaugh to live well in Central London, but it is o.k . It is also a blessing to be a good steward of money and spend it with reason and wisdom .

  11. Wake up people and be strong What is next Africans , black proffesioners and in diaspora build your countries else, start planning and preparing your wills from now , https://youtu.be/c9qD1yrIB8Y and https://youtu.be/_pWj5WMtkS8
The Africans in diaspora must be seriously warned because they have given their minds to the Europian and world health organisation to waste their lives rather than clinging more to God now to know what he is saying and doing. Now you line up your self to be killed by the vaccine, so start to prepare your death warrants and put your will down , so at least those you left behind can have the money .

  12. This is how some people destroy their homes, trying to keep up with the Jones. Be your self and live your life and value each other's happiness and mental wellbeing. Life is hard enough!

  13. A lot of Nigerian parents put so much pressure and high expectations on their children. A lot of people pick career that sound good to others e.g doctor etc. A role that pays well is important but can do your hobbies and passion on the side until they become your main source of income.

  14. Also, who get's to determine who is average. The wife needs to support her husband instead of keeping up with the Joneses. Well said Frankleen. Education is like the Olympics in Nigeria. Interestingly, with the rise of Afro beats, many are trying to ride this wave. Knowing one's purpose and living it is the key to happiness. Money can buy many things such as a house and cars, but it won't buy you long lasting happiness and peace of mind, real love and a home.

  15. Unfortunately some Doctors are only in it for the money, prestige etc, but lack empathy. Knowing one's purpose is absolutely important. If everyone was paid the same wage would things be different? In other words, would you still be in your chosen career.

  16. Good talk Franklin. The only thing I abide by in this world is the rule of law; in Everything else, I follow God's will that comes through my human intuition. I don't and I refuse to compete with humans.

  17. My husband loves soccer (and still does) when he was younger; his parents would sent him on an errand, he would play soccer till he remembers that he was on an errand. He got the beating of his life then for not being on time. If his parents had encouraged and nurtured him, maybe he would have been one of the best soccer player🤷🏽‍♀️. Keep up the good work Phrankleen.✌💚💙

  18. Thank you Phrankleen. This is how our Nigerian Parents, spouses, etc push their Loved ones to commit suicide. Once again thanks for investing your time in trying to gradually make a change in Africa or among African Families as a whole.

  19. Find your purpose from being 'Average'! @phrankleen thats your up & TED talk 🙂

The biggest question many of us are yet to find the Answer too is 'What is my purpose in Life'?

You cannot continue living for your parents alone.

  20. This why we must know who we are joining with. Man this shit CAN GET wicked. But it doesn't have to be. Find someone you can really ask or tell ANYTHING and then PLAN together. STRATEGICALLY.
