Most African parents are very active in the lives of their children.

The studying part is not just for bragging, Africans tend to look at the practicality of the profession.

Can you survive on what you intend to study. For Africans, it's about survival and thriving because lack is the biggest challenge.

Black kids want to be rappers, and African kids want to be doctors…it's culture, not race that's the problem

In college I knew a family whose father was an engineering professor at the university we attended. He was originally from Egypt.
He insisted that his son go to college for engineering, even though the son had no interest in engineering.
But, the son did what his father told him to do.
After he graduated he did two things. He joined the military and went back to school to become a medical doctor.
He never used his engineering degree.

Always found it interesting that the dad insisted his son get the engineering degree even though his son was interested in a degree and career path that was perfectly fine.

Trust me. I and my sister are a big disappointment to my dad and his is a shame to tell his friends about us since we decided to pursue something different from what he wanted us to pursue.

Your parents just want you to be able to support yourself and there's nothing wrong with that

African Parents: My kid will be a doctor/lawyer/engineer!

My American Parents: you’ll never amount to anything, no amount of mowing others lawns will pay for you to go to college. Oh and we are kicking you out at 12 because we, as your legal guardians, don’t comminicate with each other so one of us didn’t know you were making up a missed bowling practice, got pegged with a 2L in the head while walking home from across the city because you missed the last city bus and some idiots thought it would be funny to do it.

Life story there 🤣

It’s called having standards. We have forces in this country that love seeing the black Americans remain a sub class. You rise up from that by not doing hood shit.
