2024 Chery Omoda 5 turbo (inc. 0-100 & braking) review: Best value all-wheel drive SUV?
We reviewed the front-wheel drive Chery Omoda 5, but it’s now time to get behind the wheel of the ‘top spec’ all-wheel drive GT version to see if it’s any good! Paul Maric drives the 2024 Chery Omoda 5 GT and tests everything from cup holders through to emergency braking!

It can also make french fries. In the end it's a chinese car. No way.
I'm an All Black Supporter and believe Ardi is the suitable leader for the All Blacks
Cherry and BYD are Top Choice Chinese Oto Brands in Indonesia, Good Interior Quality, Sturdy, and reliant on floods 😂
I would be seriously looking at one of these. However, there doesn’t appear to be a dealer near me, so it doesn’t seem practical.
Great reviews, dude u r an Australian Seth MacFarlane – brothers across the pond lol.
Communist car no thanks
2 Questions:
a) Does it fit a set of golf clubs in the back?
b) Would you be able to swap/retrofit the wireless charging sides so that the drivers side charge’s instead of needing to keep the phone on the passenger’s side?
Asking the hard hitting questions here 😂.
Cherry or havaal which engine is good?
Paul you make no comment about the stop start system
My only disappointment of the car so far . There is no function to turn it off
I'm so interested to see where we're going with vehicle design and manufacturing. Lost any hope we'll ever have our own car manufacturer here in Australia, we let go of that far too easily and we can't argue about where our vehicles come from at this stage. The evolution of cars, SUVs & utes is the most important responsibility we have now as consumers. Our roads and conditions are different from other countries, in a big way. One thing, I'm fed up with cars not being standard AWD, there's no excuse these days in any vehicle in Aus for it to not be standard just as part of safe driving. Once you drive AWD, you understand how much safer it makes the car, how it makes the ridiculously different road surfaces we dive in one day so much easier & less wearing on you and your car. It truly needs to be thought of like all the other safety equipment that's become necessary, like driver alerts and all the bells and whistles. Good AWD can save your life, notice I said good.
The other thing that I'm completely over these days and my last 3 beautiful cars have had is Piano Black………yes it looks very sexy all shiny and gleaming, but when do any of us have time to shine the dang stuff??????????? WHEN???? & Why even if they've cut it down on many places, like doors and windows (cause we are all going to be using our grubby little fingers for those), why is the centre console and around the touch screens (c'mon nearly every car now has touch screens) & what is the point of putting it anywhere in the same postcode as cupholders for pitys sake. Also let's be truthful, hands up if all the dust and crap that shows up in every one of those areas with piano black drives you completely loopy & makes you want to bust out the mini vac & polish cloth. Another great thing would be if the reflections off all the surfaces of your dashboard and consoles made the information easier to see, so you don't have to do that shady thing with one hand while you're trying to reverse…….(the gift of the reversing camera surrounded in piano black as well, who knew!!) It would also be nice to see all your dials, readouts, buttons and the whole kit and caboodle in daylight sun without having to peer through the glare coming straight in the windscreen & blinding you because of the dust, fingerprints and crap on your lovely piano black whatevers. Ok, perhaps I have a small problem with it truthfully.
And seats, I know we're all different when it comes to seats, but please explain how with all of the options for seating these days you still get a numb bum & a sore lower back & neck after driving long distance even in a car you'd rather live in than your house. What happens to a perfectly wonderful, beautiful hand chosen car that you've paid your bucks for after spending months researching, visiting dealers and learning more about weight distribution of the human body on the shape of car seats (& really I don't want to know as much as I do about car seat materials and bolstering) & finally you pick THAT car……. you know THE perfect one, you're in love, you're happy, you're yelling at friends and family to get their fingers of the piano black (you're still carrying a polish cloth in the glovebox to whip out and make it gleam again) so there you are & you simply couldn't be happier with your choice. Then you do the long trip, yes the one that this car was going to make a dream to do & bang…….3-4hrs into the trip, the honeymoon is over and you're suffering numb bum or dodgy back…. please explain!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ I only have a couple of niggles & Piano Black is one 🙄😏😁
I don’t think the lane centring test on a steeply banked road is valid. Our roads are not banked. The real test is on a normal road. Does it work there?
What an ugly looking car
Having owned American, Australian and Japanese vehicles for years I test drove both Havel and the Omoda 5 and was amazed at the quality of the vehicles.and the world of options. So much so I sold the wife's Outlander for a Omoda 5 1 month ago and just love it. I truly believe Chinese vehicles are the next big thing and an incredibly affordable over Japenese and Korean cars that have left families in certain sectors out of reach of affordable cars with top level safety.
Japanese cars are and always will have the best engines and reliability! German cars have great styling but not the reliability of Japanese! Chinese cars are cheap and like anything that comes out of china thats cheap doesn't last so they have to prove themselves.
Remember you only get what you pay for.
I have shares in polestar and nio which are built in china and drive a lexus. A 15 year old lexus that has never broken down or had any mechanical part fitted apart from service parts. Will we be talking about Chinese cars in 15 years who knows time will tell.
Hi Paul
I've bought the Chery Omoda 5 last year EX model , I really hate the camera thing that always is telling me that I'm distracted, when I'm actually looking at what's around me…
Is there a fix or update for this yet, as it's the only thing that I really hate … hope you can help
you don't have to love Chinese car ,but they can really do something good for aussie, like make other brands cut prices, that will good enough for those toyota and honda lover
This thing is absolutely hideous. 😮
Be careful, cherry omoda 5 in malaysia are facing troubles with more than 600+ cars call back for fixing. The front axle broke while driving on the road. Now the car has no value at all for trade in.
Chinese are making good quality cars and Suvs, none I would trust in any way due to their Commie government 😡
Until the axles snap off. No thanks. 3 different incidents in 3 different markets that we know off. How many more will have their randomly axles snap off while driving? Yikes.
Nope public transport are cheap and safe enough for young ones instead of this high-powered Omoda 4wd; public transport isn't a luxury to keep vulnerable teens safe from a crash.
