Nigeria Is The Biggest Cassava Producer In The World. Why Isn’t It Cashing In On The Global Market?
Nigeria grows 63 million metric tons of cassava (also known as yuca or manioc) every year, but most of the country’s supply is eaten locally as fufu or garri. Experts say Nigeria could be missing out on billions in exports of lucrative cassava products like bubble tea pearls, starch, or ethanol. Challenges along the country’s entire supply…

so where did the oil money go??? so sad to see this, the money should of been spent on farming technique in part… wicked world. This is why Africa needs leaders like Traore Burkina Faso. not leaders who live in Swiss Hotels
by the size of the diamond on her ring, I bet shes doing just fine…
so…colonizers introduced a plant that africans eat and make money from?!?!?
And the governor of Ogun State is busy attending all types of silly parties when he should be working on how to improve this value chain.
Come on Nigeria. I'm 'rooting' for you
NOT all types of cassava are poisonous. There’s a sweet type and a bitter (poisonous) type. I grew up on a farm in Jamaica and we knew from the leaves which type it was. The sweet one can be cooked and eaten directly, while the bitter (poisonous) one had to be grated, strained and dried. The juice was used in the past to starch clothing. Over time people just learned how to safely use the plant.
This is such an informative vedio, can i share on my instagram?
Mandioca é um alimento maravilhoso que deveria ser mais valorizado.
It's almost pure starch, but it's a good alternative to wheat and it's very sustainable.
I’d just say it. The reason why Nigeria wasn’t cashing in on it is because we weren’t trying to. Everything was more or less a rollercoaster.
But we’re trying to now, and I mean real economic growth.
Please how can I contact and partner with this Yemesi? I'm into cassava farming too
Still the need food, drops hangout from civilised nation. What a shame
She sounds like someone that enjoys shouting over others.
Cassava in nlgeri; mandioca in Brasil.
Is this tapioca..?
Woman are supposed to cook cassava in da kitchen not grow it on da field!
Nigeria needs to build strong military too least greedy american politicians decide to take cassave products in exchange for freedom and democracy.
How can I get that in Kenya
I wonder how the first people found out how to remove the poison from the cassava. Were they just trying different ideas until they stopped dying from consuming it? Sounds crazy…
As a Nigerian living in The United States Of America, I miss my garri and fried fish, chicken, turkey and kulikuli, peanut, coconut, ice chips, sugar andr milk. I miss Nigeria.
"Cassava" names in india in kerala "kappa". super & very testy & healthy food. I like it❤️👌🏻
Use to plant it with my dad back in Nigeria
What I learned from this is moving the factory closer to the farmers even if far away from the customers so that spoilage of raw/fresh cassava is reduced.
typo: "Less likely to endure famine" -> experience
Nestlé…humph!.
As long as Kill from the Gates of hell, is not allowed to put his apeel or mrna poisons in your cassava products, then I say Hurrayyy!!! to Nigeria, go for it! Otherwise, folks; grow your own cassava at your homes! Be guided accordingly. How can AFRICANS benefit from the economy of scales, is the question going forward.
Afrika lebih dulu diperkenalkan singkong tp orang indonesia yang lebih efisien mulai dari tanam sampai konsumsi. Bahkan daun singkong saja dikonsumsi jadi sayur di afrika malah di buang begitu saja 😢.
I'm Indonesian, most of Indonesian also eat cassava 😊
Mejor intercambien con China por teléfonos móviles.
Nestle is just the new "United Kingdom" in terms of forced labor.
Myr കപ്പ. അയിനാണ്.
Bill gates is the Ahole
Here from brazil we call casava mandioca and we love it to do tapioca, is verry cool know that much people love it too
time frame 7:14 is in Uganda. NOT Nigeria
We eat the boiled root but some traditional rules are followed to prevent poisoning.
We only boil it with the lid open.
We never eat any food which contain ginger in the same day or meal.
get it!
So happy to hear Nigeria is flourishing! Bless Nigeria and Africa. ❤
Cassava pone.
People from Trinidad and Tobago know. 🇹🇹
You are talking lies…casava is been in Africa for many years, it was not brought by the west, it was originally from Africa because of the climate. What you are trying to is like saying maize meal is from the west, yet it is farmed more in Africa. Get your facts right. Do tell lies.
As an American who tried Gari… Its true, it should be in the first aid box😅
1:58 "more than 4000 years ago, indigenous people…"
Is the adjective really necessary at that point in time?
Bravo! 🌹💖🌹
Fun fact: my people survived on casava while escaping from the Veit Cong after the US lost the veitnam war. I don't think it's the exact same plant but it's definitely very similar and in desperate times, we'd eat it after boiling the root. It was rough and not appetizing but it's what got most of my people through the day if they didn't have much to eat while running to the refugee camps in Thailand
Edit: if you wanna see my people eating it nowadays, we do process it and eat it just like fufu's now, just on a much smaller scale. Search: "qos ntoos" in youtube and you'll find dozens of videos lol
Now lets hope that in time in Africa we find alternative solutions to Tractors or small tractors, because Europe they have completely destroyed the bio diversity by compacting the soil so hard that a lot of important insect for agriculture do not exist anymore in a lot of places.
And Yams are YAMS!!! Not Sweet potatoes!! And they demand way more water and work
They say that the Manioc spoils, but when it is sold oversea it is coated with wax and stays for a long time… If available that also would be a great way!
Isnt it contraductory:
Cassava recist drought and pest
Area that grow cassava are LESS LIKELY TO ENDURE FAMIN 😮

Why Nigerian cassava farmers are not working for the privileged part of the world is really an improvement issue 😂
there is no way those workers can make 10 dollar a day. it could be a lie
