Another tradition we have in my tribe (Bapedi) is that the child will not get out of the house untill 6 weeks after birth and not everyone can enter the baby’s room during that period. You can only go into the baby’s room during this period if the elders trust that you are pure. If they don’t trust you , they won’t even let you go near the door of the baby’s room. The elders particularly grandmother will bath , feed porridge and fruits to the mother during this period. They will also teach you how to bath your child and how to tie your stomach to avoid belly pot.
