The Myth of the Chinese Debt Trap in Africa

Over the past two decades, China has built large infrastructure projects in almost every country in Africa, making Western powers uncomfortable amid wider concerns about Beijing’s investments across the continent. However, a deeper look shows that accusations of so-called debt trap diplomacy turn out to be unfounded.

  1. so glad india is also a part of the developmental investments in Africa, india will always help its well wishers, india invested millions and billions of dollars in both ways of donation and loan at very minimal interest, india also shown interest in sharing its technology in mining, pharmacy, medicine, transport ,construction, and agriculture india also gave Africa covid 19 vaccines and many medical aids to countries like Algeria Angola Mauritius, central African republic

  2. BBB is a day late and a dollar short. Without the push from China, it would have been a year late and a million dollars short. As for Europe, it's a century late and no dollars. Don't think the Africans don't know that.

  3. Value based democracy can achieve what? Let's look at the last 10 years in the EU. 1) They managed to import millions of immigrants the majority of which refuse to integrate and don't participate in the economy in any meaningful way 2) They managed to refuse cheap energy sources like nuclear power and Russian gas. 3) Multiple business are relocating to other countries including into the US and the EU has lost an entire country (the UK). 4) They handling of the COVID pandemic and the Ukraine war have been completely fumbled and have been enormous wastes of money which in turn lead the the shrinking of most economies across the EU and a noticeable decrease in the standards of living.

  4. bloomberg: "China is set debt trap in africa" and then"US and EU are start their own ifrastructure initiative to counter China"
what the heck are you talking about?

  5. Bloomers International why don't you stop your properganda about something that in non of your business, thanks to social media to counter people like you with your properganda

  6. Making money is not the same as keeping it there is a reason why investments aren't well taught in schools, the examples you gave are well stationed, the market crisis gave me my first millions, people shy away from hard times, I embrace them.. well at least my advisor does lol.

  7. I really hope for Africa & the world that those aren't debt traps, as China has a history in doing those – just read about Hambantota Port in Sri Lanka, among many other examples…
    Only the future will tell.

  8. There is specific reason for the West to stop all infrastructure and economic development for African nations, and switched gears to provide "Aid and Charity" donations.
    They understand the idea of:
"Give the person a fish, it will feed them for the day. Teach the person how to fish, and they can find their own food".

They deliberately pushed Aid and Charity because they did not want to arm Africa with the ability to fend for themselves. This is an act of Evil, disguised as "aid and support". They knew this from the start.
China on the other hand isn't exactly there without reason. They've made it very clear that the loans needs to be repaid, they have also made it very clear that in return for China's money, they need to provide political support or neutrality when it comes to what China deems as National interests (Taiwan, Hong Kong etc etc).
Both sides understood the assignment. And as the video mentioned, when your country needs desperate infrastructure, and only China is willing to provide you with the funding, then it is what it is. The West deliberately stopped funding infrastructures at large scale in order to keep Africa underdeveloped.

China on the other hand, as proven for decades, have a vision that far surpasses your 4 year "Democratic Term". They have a single vision, and looks 20-30-40-50 years into the future. This was proven when they started their EV transition as a pet project from 2001. And look where they are now? China has a vision of what the world powers and shift will be in the coming decades/century. And China has an interest in creating this new world, that inevitably will include the fall of the Western dominance, and that is, the rise of China and the rise of Africa. The booming African population will in 20-30 years time, account for more than half the global population, and developing ties and economic relationship with them is critical should you wish to maintain dominance into second half of this century.

  9. Bloomberg is the same company that said intellectual property concerns are not a problem in China. If Africa hates lectures, then they should become democratic. Democracies should not promote the oppression of universal human rights.

  10. Proof is when these loan bids went back to Chinese businesses and all the workers at the top are brought in from China rather than allowing Africans to embark on the bid for these contracts, training and ability to hire engineers, managers etc. The jobs created and the conditions of these job are poor. Just ask the people working in these sweatshops. This video seems like propaganda 😂

  11. If the IMF, West and America talk about China creating a debt trap, it means they are talking about themselves 🤣 It's really very hypocritical and very disgusting, that's Western & US media propaganda

  12. I think Chinese corporations like money, and they see money in infrastructure. This is true in China more than anywhere else, or at least it was. With the bubble bursting in China, these long term investments might have been very wise investments on their end. However, I don't know if these projects are always in their nation's best interests.

  13. Africa also turns away from western funding because the west insists on ideological conformity ("value driven"). The US and EU are ideological imperialists, and Africa is getting tired of the strings attached to aid, i.e., crumbs that keep Africans begging.
