John Amos Is An Iconic African-American Figure For American Television & Movies.

DID YOU KNOW?
-John Amos was fired from Good Times because he spoke up about the show becoming too buffoonish
-Good Times was supposed to be about a single mom and Esther Rolle fought to have a father figure in the show
To me, John Amos was the best and strongest Black father figure in TV history.
And to Mariah Cobb. Why would you do that? That…

  1. I loved him in everything I ever saw him in. Good Times ,. I never missed an Episode and my heart broke when they killed him off on that show. He was the honest and morals struck but gets it kinda hard working Dad's. My father was a Vietnam Vet he got thing thrown at him when he came home, people treated him terrible. He saved 2 if his platoon guys. 1st guy was at the time a neighbor here in Maine when. Maine was 98% all White. This man was on his way back to the chopper and my father pulled him forward past him and threw him in chopper as enemy fire was coming in. My father took shrapnel to his spin. He was in the field for 2 days with the 2nd guy who took a bullet the same time my dad got hit. My father was immediately paralyzed from waist down but crawl over to his platoon mate who would have died with out medica help. Both my father and this man laid face down hiding from enemy while they though they'd die in that jungle. My father ended up paralyzed from neck down for a year in Vietnam he was a Marine. He finally was able to recover full except his right leg from knee down was ded 0 feeling They wanted to amputate his leg he said F no I'll learn to walk like this. He sure as hell did. He was a DEA agent for 1 yr when he came home got so bored he drove a stick shit 18 wheeler learned how to drive with his left leg and speed shift finally he fought V.A. and got 100% disabled. The reason I told u this is my father was 5'10inchs weight 180lbs solid muscle all my life and John Amos character reminded me of my father., a redheaded man of honor

  2. We watched greatness on television, but did not know it at the time. There were many strong Black men in our neighborhoods; he represented to world those fathers.

  3. NOT Exactly The Same Godfrey. My Family Dynamic Was The Same As Good Times,JJ Was Born First,Thelma The Daughter In The Middle And Michael Was The Youngest!!! My Older Brother Was First Born,Then My Older Sister The Middle Girl And Then Me, I'm The Youngest Son,The Baby Of The Family.

  4. Best, relatable father figure able. As a Gen X-er who was fortunate enough to have a dad at the house…. Yeah man… Heathcliff and Claire were the “oh…. There are black parents like that?” parents…. Where James and Florida were the “those are like my parents” parents!

  5. The show, the Father and Mother on the show were great role models of what a black Man and Women were supposed to be. To the Family, the Community, the Neighbors etc.❤❤❤❤❤

  6. Yup he never cheated on Florida! He might of looked & commented on something’s but best believe Florida was his best sunshine state of a lady!! Rip 🫡 & ❤️ Mr. Amos( James Evans)🕊️& Ms. Rolle🕊️( Florida Evans)

  8. Honestly as a white kid, growing up in the mountains of Canada in the 1970’s and 1980’s, I wasn’t getting an awful lot of black representation, but as the dad in good times, he was heroic. The kind of guy you wish was your dad.
