Why the West is IGNORING A Climate Crisis SOLUTION: African Development (w/ Fadhel Kaboub)

From time to time there’s an interview that fundamentally alters and enriches my understanding of how the world works. This is one of them. Professor of Economics at Dennison University, Fadhel Kaboub, returns to Bad Faith to explain how developing Africa may be the key to the climate crisis as well as to the prosperity of a billion comrades on…

Professor Kaboub seems to be everywhere at the moment, a remarkable social activist for change.

@jonralston

If people are frustrated with being triangulated and coerced into voting for the lesser of two evils they can join Rank the Vote and work to implement Ranked Choice Voting.

@meta-memes9060

Be vegan for our fellow animals, human-supremacist cannibals

@slivasiul

THE WEATHER IS BEING MANIPULATED BY MEN … for decades now…

@ethanstump

As someone who actually follows degrowth…….. I've been convinced of the "move to the great lakes, and don't use electricity" plan. Because of the Jevons paradox. If you use a resource more efficiently, you use more of said resource. This isn't even a capitalism problem, we've seen countries like China, Venezuela and more fall Inti this trap.

Degrowth while increasing living standards is possible, but only so much as you increase living standards by using less stuff, not more.

@Murderlin7

Jill Stein is the alternative

@shelbzillathrilla

This idea that we can help the environment by increasing the capacity for billions of people to consume… our problems are egoic/cultural, not economic. If anything we need to be developing in extremely specific and intentional ways so as to live in harmony with our planet while simultaneously letting go of 90% of the nonsense we call β€œeconomic development β€œ.

@teejatron9849

One of the best conversations I've heard this decade.

@nikita2018

OT. I don't understand why Ukraine is not mentioned next to Palestine and Lebanon. The same colonial war is being waged against us, why won't the western left admit it?

@sharlagardner

Finally. It took a person from the Global South to accurately define the problem and offer a rational solution.

@sharlagardner

Have US wars and proxy wars usage of fossil fuels been factored into the metrics????? Because our home heating means IS being factored in. This is WHY the climate science pundits piss so many of us off! Disgusting.

Biden is drilling more than Trump. Right now, the United States is the world's biggest producer of fossil fuels, the world's biggest exporter of fossil fuels; and the biggest fossil fuel producer in world history

@InsightsAbroad

We shifted production to third world countries and now we are addicted to cheap labor. As long as the profit margins are high for the 1%, climate change due to lax third world environmental standards will never be addressed

@Redpoppy80

I get the idea of voting for the "lesser of two evils" but this is a TRAP by the establishment. There is no lesser evil! If we don't destroy the system, nothing matters. Your precious social justice issues mean nothing in the face of overwhelming greed and malice. The problem is that the establishment has turned our system into a continuous shoving match. We are so afraid of losing more that we have already lost what we should care about most. Our freedom to live our lives. In the face of empire there are only two choices. Either fight the empire, or submit to it. By voting Harris who is endorsed by the imperial establishment, we are supporting empire.
I will sooner vote for Trump because while he does everything the establishment wants, Trump strips off the veneer of democracy and forces all of us to look at how far we have fallen as a society. The fact that Trump has been the target of probably 3 different assassination attempts also means that the establishment can't function as they want with him. This also FORCES our politicians to EARN our vote. I am not a Trump supporter for those ready to label me as such, I hate Trump. But this isn't about Trump, this is about systems and ours need to end, and Trump is so stupid that he will end it while claiming to save it.

@DLFfitness1

The world is ruled by greed, and fear.

@thalgott3

This guy believes there are "progressives" in congress…how much of a clown do you have to be to still believe that a progressive can vote pro-g3n0c!de and keep their "progressive" label?

@majorkaios

Beautiful questions, from a beautiful mind. Without asking the right questions, we can not get the right answers, evident in this interview. Thanx

@WimpyGimpy

What we REALLY need is to stop China and some other countries from polluting the air UNCHECKED because the USA tries to clean up the air while other countries get to pollute with no scrutiny

@dimatadore

Very interesting

@traviscutler9912

Unfortunately, I think we all know that this is a direct threat to the CIA and the people they work for and you would definitely be murdered for anything even approaching this.
This is why I keep advocating a black panther style organization as actual militancy will be required to not only have policy objectives that are threatening to the establishment but to be able to survive their implementation.
The system works

@traviscutler9912

That Columbia quote about "Palestine being the past, present and future of South America," is bang on and as I've been saying for some time, Palestinians are the canary in the fascism coal mine. Once we allow genocide in Gaza, as the climate catastrophe unfolds into the pretext for fascism, the genocidal war machine will be exported to the next inconvenient people sitting atop the resources or land the Establishment MUST consume or they WILL decline/ cease to exist and therefore an existential threat because endless growth is the lifeblood literally of neoliberalism. Eventually, genocide WILL go everywhere until it MUST be brought home.
The system works.

@traviscutler9912

WRONG!!!!!! People who running these markets every time they crash come back, double wealthy the next time. Then we give them even more taxpayer money, then they crash the market again and then they double their net value even more. So as we continue to reward them for crashing the economy so that they can continue to rob us. Does it not make sense to say that the markets are rational?!?
The system works

@guywerner2256

This whole conversation is enlightening and riveting. Dr. Kaboub manages to speak in broad strokes and ties together geopolitics and climate in a concise and understandable manner. Top tier. Thank you.

@ionlyemergeafterdark

The climate scare is a hoax. Please watch "Climate the Movie." available free online. It is a hoax to steal from us and to control us.

@walterray96

Sister I've been watching you for awhile. Before you were taken off the other news channel. You are so intelligent. And so cute β€πŸŽ‰ to boot. Thanks for being here.

Wow, such an eye-opening interview. Thanks both of you for giving excellent information about the root causes of global warming and what needs to be done to cool down the planet. The biggest obstacle is global north not willing to budge from the status quo. Wars are also causing so much pollution and getting innocent people killed. We need people like Fadhel Kaboub working in the government if we hope for cooler planet. Another root cause of global warming as per George Monbiot is meat industry, which is destroying all the eco systems, jungles and adding methane and other harmful gases to the environment produced by animals. Animal industry is also polluting rivers and making water undrinkable. Every adult need has a responsibility to get educated about this and take action towards choosing right people in power.

@jessewood3196

All those libs with yard signs that say things like, 'we believe in science' are walking, talking hypocrites. They are the smugest of hypocrites.

This is an amazing show. This should be titled "How Africa can decolonise to decarbonise". There is just one blindspot: Sovereign industrial development cannot, according to Terreblanche, Bauman, Ajl, et el absorb all the labour of a country. The global north solved that by exporting the surplus labor ie settler colonialism. Hence agrarian reform and peasant farming is still a big thing to solve to have full sovereign development. I want to learn more about what your guest think about agriculture.

Love the vision and how the guest articulates the facts. That said, the slogan "De-Growth" is poorly formed. I know "sustainable" has been co-opted but it is far more attractive. Please reconsider your branding. De- growth De-fund, all these inherently negative terms are reactionary.
