Those who claim that highlife started from Liberia ,are not far from the truth. From childhood memories, some fishermen who went to Liberia for fishing came back to Cape Coast to form a group called Damplema. This group always sang in Kru language. My second memory are the Krus in Takoradi. The area was Kru compound, this was in the forties, and they had a brass band which played highlife then.Ghanaians should ask, where did song Siolele and Apapa gibamu wore came from. The Krus also introduced guitar music to Ghanaians.

Highlife music have all its roots from Congolese music,Rumba and Samba. That influences spread all of the South America.Even the Tango originated from Congo.

No Nigerian claimed has Nigeria as been the birthplace of highlife music . The birthplace of highlife music is Liberia . Although , it's understandable how disparate Ghanaians have worked tirelessly to claim it similar way the people of Gold Coast stole the name Ghana from Mali .
