  1. I don't like war at all but like its said, they underestimated the the Somalians and that arrogance is what messed it up for them.. theres no good or bad from both sides of what had happened there but in the moment the guys had to do what they had to do.. my opinion The Special forces didn't win this but got a consolation by actually capturing the secondary targets.. it mission was complete but unsuccessful.. for 500 Somalians to be killed means they also believed they were fighting for the right cause , regardless if we see it as wrong or right.. war is so messy ..

  2. Why had no one taken what happened here with soft shell HUMMVE and 2 ton trucks to say wait….we nèd to put a bullet resistant shell on it to protect the troops. How did this end up such a disaster and nit make changes before Afghanistan and Iraq 2?

I remember in the late 80s when the HUMMVE was introduced my dad who was the training NCO in charge if the 3rd Infantry Division making noise about how it was a death trap. That may be why he was soon after transferred back to Rangers at the 101st Air Assualt Ft. Campbell KY

  3. I understand it was necessary for their lives… but imagine being a clan member trying to stay out of trouble in your house, nothing to do with the madness, then these guys kick in your door…

  4. No mention of Sgt Dominick Pilla being the first casualty of this battle ". While taking Blackburn back to base, Sergeant Dominick Pilla, assigned to one of the Humvees being pelted with heavy fire from the surrounding buildings, was killed instantly when a bullet struck his head, becoming the first American killed in the battle"

  5. The two snipers were posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor the continually asked to go down and protect the survivors but were denied on multiple occasions. It's a pity this video fails to mention their names 18:42 At the second crash site, two Delta snipers, Master Sergeant Gary Gordon and Sergeant First Class Randy Shughart, were inserted by Black Hawk Super 62. Their first two requests to be inserted were denied, but a third request was approved after the QRF troops were ambushed.

  6. "With the exception of one injured private" Really his name was PFC Todd Blackburn. ", and fell 70 feet (21 m) onto the street. Blackburn received severe injuries and required evacuation by a column of three Humvees"

  7. US always puts their boots on the ground and lose a lot of soldiers and their goals never achieved. Korea , Vietnam, Mogadishu , Iraq & Afghanistan. They are all defeats for the US Military, the regimes they were trying to oust remain and are stronger.

  8. americans did never understood somali culture, what they fought against was clasn's man, even if it takes the death of the whole clan somalis would never let a foreigners to take one of them. they should never disrespect somalis in the first place.

  9. Special thanks for the great work as a response rescue from team group under pbb *Malaysian army and another group for successful tasks Rescue Team members from the USA military consist of rangers and others!! It is very important to give the real story that their bodies are indeed a bit small compared to the US army, but it is not necessary to argue that the bravery of Malaysian soldiers is very high and salute for the task

  10. Fun fact.

Aidids own son was part of the Marine Corps contingent that initially arrived in the area.

That “One Injured Private” was Todd Blackburn. He somehow lost grip on the fast rope and fell.

This operation by the way was not the reason US left.

Also technically this was NOT a defeat for the US.
