  1. It may seem like a conspiracy theory to some, but Asian Americans are competing with African Americans in the minority celebrity circle. Look at who took over as president of the Academy – Janet Yang! I felt this when Asian films pretty much SWEPT the wins last year. πŸ€”

  2. Not worried about Barbie! But damn! The Color Purple should have taken home most of the Oscars. I watched Oppenheimer, Barbie, Poor Things, and Anatomy of a Fall and they were πŸ—‘οΈ compared to The Color Purple

This MOVIE! It was an Adaptation of the Original Movie NOT A REMAKE!!! OF The First Movie!
Which WAS Physically And Verbly Very Abusive!! Towards Celie! The MUSICAL Was as. Was
Written Was More like the. Book!! And a min lighter version!.Which Showed Forgiveness ! Love!
Growth of Person who has gone through HELL!!! As a Child and as an ADULT!! And Some how

  4. Oprah I hope you’ve learned your lesson! A musical not many people now a days wants to sit through a musical. My opinion the original Color purple had all the elements to bad it was snubbed! Think about it it’s a black movie Hollywood is still prejudice..

  5. Sound of Freedom is the REAL MOVIE that should have gotten nominations!!! A movie showcasing how bad child sex trafficking has become is a FAR more important message than a crappy remake.

  6. TCP & Wonka are on its 3rd time around the block. We can ALL relate to chocolate, but todays Women can't (and shouldn't) be able to relate to TCP. Yt people talking and treating us less than, a man beating on you because you check the mail, a wife opening her door to her husbands mistress, Not knowing how to read, and can barely write. It's depressing. Oprah wanted to shine a light on Sophia's character, that's why Danielle is shining Oprah was there to coach her. Fantasia pwpaas told not to bother Whoopi when she expressed her desire to collaborate with Whoopi to make Celie great!!πŸ’―πŸ’―

  7. I'm sorry but I've seen all three versions of The Color Purple. The original, the play and this version. It is rare that I have to watch a movie in two parts because I got so bored with it. The actors were all superb but this is supposed to be a time period Piece movie. The music and the choreography were both way too modern. In my opinion, Taraji had nothing to do with the movie getting snubbed or even flopping. In my opinion, without all the drama the movie still would have flopped. You simply do not remake classics. Remember what happened when Hollywood remade West Side Story? Only Oscar win was for supporting Actress. The movie simply was not Oscar worthy and, OMG, DEFINITELY not Barbie.

  8. I felt not including, snubbing Whoopi, the original Ceely, to be a participating Producer was a harbinger of bad Karma. Oprah looked out of place without Whoopi on the press tours. No, I did not like this reimagined remake.

  9. Is it possible the movie wasn't nominated for anything except Danielle Brooks ( a deserving nomination btw) because maybe there were other films that were just more well liked? Not everything is going to get nominated and it happens quite literally every year. categories such as best actress, best picture, and best director were stacked this year.

  10. The movie was snubbed because Alice Walker BEEN a real one for four decades and refuses to bend to the will of zionism and Hollywood is trying to punish her for it. all the while snubbing the likes of a more than deserving nominee like FANTASIA AND TARAJI

  11. Every year we complain about snubbing. I enjoyed TCP movie as a filmgoer, but it didn't scream best picture to me. Fantasia was good, but I didn't really expect an Oscar nod. I actually thought Taraji did really well in her role. They got it right with Danielle.

  12. Honestly no one wanted this movie and I think it would have been better if they used this exact cast for a new story that wasn’t about Black trauma. Like the color purple is a movie I would never watch again. It’s extremely sad and horrifically abusive. I’ve read the book and watched the movie why would I continue to consume that type of media???

  13. I thought a shut out means no nominations from a project. An acting nod is an acknowledgment. And Disney was nominated for Elemental. (I don't think it deserved it, though.)

  14. The reasons you mentioned make sense. But one you clearly omitted is that The Color Purple, as a stand alone film, just wasn’t good. And juxtaposed against the other great movies and performances from a very competitive year, it had no chance of getting in. This is coming from a lover of musicals and the source material. Moreover, the story doesn’t resonate with today’s moviegoers, and so those who went to see it were eager to see what improvements were made to the source materials and were disappointed. But I agree that Henson’s experience made it unlikely that it would receive mercy nominations.

  15. it’s not a sticky situation… Robbie is basically Barbie why would they nominate her for basically playing how she’s perceived daily. but she did it for the pay day on the back end. they’re not bothered. trust

  16. but it wasn’t shut out. someone was nominated and that’s good enough. this was also not an original movie and was a musical. TCP did what it was supposed to do. They received 11 nominations in the 80s. GROUNDBREAKING. this remake was cute tho.

  17. The Color Purple was shut out because it was by no means a great film. 2023 was filled with great writing, directing, and performances. The Color Purple was just not on the level of films like Oppenheimer, Anatomy of a Fall, Killers of the Flower Moon or Past Lives.
Overall this remake was attempted clear money and awards grab and failed spectacularly on both fronts because the final product was over produced (in what world does a movie that takes place in early 20th century rural Georgia , with no special effects or expensive CGI, or major mainstream stars, require a $100 budget?!) and uninspired. The hype around this film was completely manufactured and I think studios are finally starting to see that social media is the best clue for what audiences want. Especially niche audiences like African American women.
If this movie would have stuck to a more reasonable budget of $20-35 million it could have been a major success.

  18. I haven't heard anyone I know that saw this movie say they really enjoyed it, including people who love both the original and the live stage musical. Sometimes movies don't get nominations because they aren't very good, and this is one year when the academy got the nominations right.

  19. Good video on why The Color Purple was shut out of the Oscars. I think you listed some valid reasons for why The Color Purple was shut out of the Oscars. I do have a question though about your video why The Color Purple was shut out of the Oscars, and that is why did you choose to repeat the statement why The Color Purple was shut out of the Oscars so many times through out? Either way I think it’s a real shame that The Color Purple was shut out of the Oscars and otherwise I think you did a great job on your video why The Color Purple was shut out of the Oscars.

  20. I call a little cap though, because poor little things managed to snag nominations despite being release 12/8/23.. I refuse to believe the release date effected TCP this much considering they were BOTH musicals
