The Temple of Abu simbel was moved and Rebuilt in 1968
We see it as art that we can cut up resemble and stick back together with cement. The eqyptions did not see it as art it had to be made from one peice of stone due to some relegion we dont understand. Cutting it destroyed it in an egyptions belief

يبعد باب معبد شيطان عن شاهد معبد أصنام سبعة كم إتجاه الشمال الشرقي
عند الوصول تجد محرقة شبه دائرية ستة متر فيها حجارة مثلثة رمادية تتجه شمال غرب من المحرقة سبعة متر تجد أرض جبس وسطها مربع مصطبة ثلاثة متر طول و عرض مردومة هي نقطة الصفر
عمق باب معبد شيطان عشرين متر و غطاء الباب طينة الحكمة صخرية سمكها متر في قع المصطبة و فوق غطاء الباب عشرة طبقات ردم تربة فيه أصنام جبس ثم جبس مع طين تسعة طبقات بينها تربة مع رماد ثم رمل مع رماد فيه عظام قربان بشر و قرون أورك بشر مسخ شياطين و جرة طولها عشرين سنتي واقفة فيها شتة أصنام ذهب عيار 9 صغيرة ثم غطاء الباب
يفتح الباب على غرفة دائرية قطرها أربعة متر و إرتفاعها متران فيه خزنة الباب ستة صناديق سبائك ذهب 24 و إثنى عشرة جرة روح لكهنة عبدة الأصنام شيوخ جوامع مشعودين و عشرة بنادق صيد معها صناديق خرطوش و أربعة قنطار عشبة العلماء
في الجهة الشمالية الشرقية باب مغلق بجدار مبني بالطوب الحراري الأحمر سمكه متران
يفتح الباب على درج مستقيم ينزل لعمق سبعين متر ينتهي في ممر مستقيم عرضه ثلاثة متر و إرتفاعه متران ينحدر لأسفل لعمق سبعة مائة متر ينتهي في بوابة معبد أصنام شيطان مفتوحة
ف معبد الأصنام أربعة مخازن مربعة أربعة متر في إركان معبد شيطان مبني بالذهب المخزن الأول فيه عشبة العلماء في صناديق خشب محفوضة زمنيا و المخزن الثاني فيه صناديق سبائك ذهب عيار 24 و المخزن الثالث فيه صناديق فيها حولي زينة نساء ذهب و فضة و أحجار كريمة و المخزن الرابع فيه مواد غذائيّة محفوضة زمنيا و معبد شيطان إرتفاعه عشرة متر فيه أصنام ذهب مائة صنم ذهب مختلفة الأحجام و مائة ثمثال حيونات و طيور فضة,

It's a shame so much history was lost by the dam. It's incredible that they were able to move it, but if we're not careful future archaeologists will be very confused by its location.

A much older cousin, a paleontology instructor at SMU, spent a year at the Abu Simbel site, assisting in the global effort to save this ancient complex from drowning from the waters of the under-construction Aswan High Dam. I remember looking at some of the photos he took – incredible would be an understatement! This was a UNESCO undertaking – 100 countries contributed in various ways to make this a reality; what I didn't realize was that this was the very first UNESCO World Heritage Site in existence! Of all my relatives, he was one of my favorites, 'cause of his sense of humor and his modest ways!
Those of you who are interested, there is a book by David Roberts titled Egypt Yesterday and Today – in it are many of his illustrations. It's worth a look!

This reminds me of the Easter Island Statues.
The drive to this place from Aswan is unbelievable. Several hours each way, and there is NOTHING in between except for sand, a few rocks, and a snack bar sort of place. Before booking a tour, make very sure you want to see this.
Once you get close to the temple, things get better. There is a fleet of boats to take you to the complex, and there are tons of souvenir vendors by the dock. At the complex itself, there is an outdoor cafe with shade.

Liked the clip. … about folks who really were large and in charge. Which for me brings up an observation that the BCE Egyptian types were a sort of a feudal society with the triangular shaped society which looks like some of the pictures I've seen when I used to go down to the local Public Library to poke around in some of those books back when I was much, much younger. What are the odds?
