New strain of Mpox spreading rapidly in central Africa | BBC News
The World Health Organisation has already declared MPox a global health emergency. And now a new strain of the virus is rapidly spreading across parts of Africa, leading to a new surge of infections.
The epicentre of the outbreak is the Democratic Republic of Congo, where more than 16,500 cases have been recorded this year, with 570 deaths….

16,700 cases with 570 death in 2024. Normal Mortality rate in Congo is 6% per year. 6% of 16,700 cases is 1,002. Therefore, I conclude Mpox reduces risk of death by 50%.
