  1. Wheel of Time is inherently diverse. To try to implement the diversity in a specific way for the show, in other words make sure that each actor is diverse in the exact way that they are in the novels would be tedious and, in my opinion not worth it.
I also do not care for forced re imagining of characters in any type of quota or ratio method.

    Representation! We want Representation!

In my experience, WoT fans, particularly those that are vocal, heavily invested, making money from fandom, monitoring discussion threads, attending conventions and book signings and so on, do lean towards injecting agendas into the story.
Are they truly fans if they feel such a strong need to change this thing they claim to love? I do not question their love personally but the optics they project and require… I am glad that I do not have to try and make them happy. Literally The Serpent Eating it's own tail.

Having said all of this, I hold some unpopular opinions. I loved Michael Clarke Duncan as The Kingpin. I do not hate Daredevil as much as so many seem to. I loved Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury. There are those that agree with me and those who don't. My day is seldom affected.

  2. Is this going to be another should be awesome but ruined by social justice inundation TV shows? I'm not taking any issue with this casting in particular. I don't care if they decided Siuan Sanche should be black if they honestly felt Sophie Okonedo would best play the role, or if Jordan described her in way that at least could be interpreted as black and I just missed it. But I have yet to see any white people casted for a role for the show. Yet, most of the main characters, with the exception of Rand (mixed w/ Aiel), were portrayed as white. I have no problem with the portrayal of any race as a hero or protagonist, but I do care about choosing the best actor for the job and that their race corresponds with the books, and that white people are not discriminated against for SJW pandering. If this is what is happening, I will refuse to watch the show.

  3. Described as fair-skinned and blue-eyed – hey guys let's cast a black actress….
But guys, it is about the acting skill not the skin colour – ah yes, I guess that's true, I assume that they cast quite a few characters that are black or brown in the books, such as Alanna Mosvani, Ihvon, Eamon Valda with white actors, oh wait…nope, they did not.
But this Siaun thing is surely just a one off, they didn't cast other light-skinned characters with black actors, like Egwene, Naeneve, Perrin, Padan Fain, Aram – well….well…

But guys, guys, it's only about the acting skills…

  4. In regards to the young Siuan casting, while I expect some parts of New Spring to fill out Moiraine's backstory. There's reason to believe the Aes Sedai may be more of a main character than the Emond's Field 5 at the start of the show. There's also internal monologue references to Siuan's childhood on the docks which could very likely be filmed, rather than covered in dialogue.

  5. IF U SUPPORT ALL THE CASTING THAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING
u are for moraine, while looking for the chosen one, going to a village filled with mostly minorities, and picking the 2 white boys based solely off their age and appearance…..YIKES
but dont wry perrin is a black. the character who is only truly powerful in his dreams, has a close affinity with wolves and dogs, and is constantly chased by the white cloaks and considered a dark friend…… just well done. all around.

  6. Yes, siuan has blue eyes and also… Fair skin in the books. I have looked where my priorities lie and concluded they lie with the fact that the characters need to at least remotely resemble what RJ wrote. Blood and bloody ashes, you people are all going nuts, if you support this blasted casting choices.

  7. I am sure there are plenty of blue eyed actors out there, why not pick one of them? I mean, how much do awards, nominations, and acting ability really matter when it comes right down to it? I would rather have actors that fit the exact description than ones that can "actually act well." Haha, did I get ya?! The real sad part is there are people that actually think this way. I love the casting of Sophie, and think she will be an Excellent Siuan.

  8. One thing I've learned from listening to Youtubers describe WOT – I'm prounouncing "The Amyrlin Seat, the Flame of Tar Valon" wrong in two separate wrong ways.

  9. i forking love siuan so much. she's my favorite female character in the books (favorite male character is rand, boring i know). sophie okonedo is perfect for the role, i remember her from doctor who and i really liked her character then. oh man, i can't wait

  10. Suian pov in book 4 (keeping it spoiler-free) has a moment where she is thinking back to a time growing up in the Maul (?) of Tear. I won't go into specifics, but when the younger Suian was cast, this is what I immediately thought of.

  11. Fun fact …Barny Harris played her son on the hollow crown, I know this because I was just watching it the other day to see his acting and when the casting news for her dropped I was so lucky I've just seen how great of an actress she is without even looking!

  12. If the blue eyes are so important to some, okay cool. People seem to forget that she could wear blue eye contacts. This is a fantasy world, people. Like I'm enjoying the series so far and I'm on book 5. Come on, these are fictional characters. As long as the acting is great, who cares.

  13. If people believe that 'blue eyes' are more important than Oscar-caliber acting, I think we all know what's really going on with those 'fans'. We live in a world where colored contact lenses exist, and digital wizardry along the lines of what was done for Anya Chalotra for The Witcher. We can make eyes whatever color we want, kids.

  14. I am glad that the actress cast to play older Siuan has the same eye shape (and face shape) as the actress cast to play the younger version of Siuan. The two actresses look as if they are related (like cousins).

My mistake if I misinterpreted something you said in this video. Members of Ajahs other than Brown also teach novices. You said the Browns were the teachers. I interpreted this statement as you implying that only Brown sisters taught classes in the White Tower.

  15. While I wasn't that big a fan of NEW SPRING, my favorite element of it was seeing young Siuan and Moiraine's friendship. My guess is that by casting Keira Chansa, they will retell elements of NEW SPRING in a different way. Maybe in this version of events, Siuan and Moiraine grew up together.

  16. Loving it. She is quite beautiful. She's also played great roles. Young Siaun is cool to see, as it suggests some good flashbacks. Awesomeness! As for the eyes…yeah Jordan put in interesting things, that are hard or impossible to replicate in real life people. Sure they could give her blue contacts, but its not really very important. I'd only go to that kind of trouble if they wanted the rare look on screen as a novelty. It would look great, but I don't really care.
