This shows how racial labels still serve a purpose, especially when it comes to recognizing achievements and calling out injustices.While I respect someone's preference not to be called African American, saying we should get rid of all labels is unrealistic. Racial labels are essential tools in addressing and combating inequality. Without them, we risk ignoring the very real and ongoing issues that affect communities of color. Therefore, rather than abandoning labels, we should use them thoughtfully to promote understanding and equity.
